Pak cricketers mentally stronger than English players: Afridi

Pak cricketers mentally stronger than English players: Afridi LONDON: Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has said that efforts are being made to destroy his country’s team; but, the Pak nation would emerge with as much resilience as it is suppressed.

While talking in a Geo News programme Captain’s Corner, allrounder Shahid Afridi said that a police case could have been filed against Jonathon Trott for his misbehaving with Wahab Riaz.

He said that he was asked not to go for toss after a dispute between Trott and Wahab; but, the Pakistan team showed its greatness despite Trott’s misbehavior.

Praising his team, Afridi said that the Pakistani players are

Chemicals in indoor swimming pools may increase cancer risk

Chemicals in indoor swimming pools may increase cancer risk LONDON: Swimming in indoor chlorinated pools may induce genotoxicity (DNA damage that may lead to cancer) as well as respiratory effects, but the positive health effects of swimming can be maintained by reducing pool levels of the chemicals behind these potential health risks, according to a new study published in a set of three articles online September 12 ahead of print in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP).

This study is the first to provide a comprehensive characterization of disinfection by-products (DBPs) in an indoor pool environment and the first to study the genotoxicity of exposure to these chemicals among swimmers in an indoor chlorinated pool.

DBPs form in pool water from reactions between disinfectants such as chlorine and organic matter that is either present naturally or is introduced by

Pakistan tour ends with one-day decider

Pakistan’s scandal-filled tour of England reaches its conclusion at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday with the deciding match of a closely fought one-day series that has been overshadowed by fresh fixing claims against both teams.
Pakistan lost the opening two matches of the five-game series but drew level at 2-2 thanks to a 38-run victory at Lord’s on Monday.
Relations between the two sides have hit a new low after Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt accused England’s players of deliberately losing the third one-dayer, at The Oval on Friday.
Despite England’s outrage and threats of legal action against Butt, the

Mexico's Bicentennial 2010

Mexico's Bicentennial 2010

Mexico commemorated the 200th anniversary of the beginning of its War of Independence. In September of 1810, a Mexican priest named Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla uttered a call to arms against the Spanish, later known as the Grito de Dolores ("Cry of Dolores"). Soon after began a series of battles with the Spanish that would build into a war that lasted over a decade, eventually resulting in independence. This bicentennial year, tens of thousands of Mexicans thronged the streets of Mexico City to celebrate. The celebrations took place under a somewhat subdued light though, amid the violence of a brutal nationwide drug war and vocal criticism of government spending on the lavish ceremonies. Collected here are

Oktoberfest 2010: Bavarian Beer Festival in Munich

On Saturday, September 18th, with the tapping of the first keg by Munich Mayor Christian Ude and a cry of "O'zapft is!", Oktoberfest 2010 officially started in Munich, Germany. While this year marks the 177th Oktoberfest to be held, 2010 is the 200th anniversary of the very first Oktoberfest in 1810 (some years were missed due to war or cholera outbreaks). The Oktoberfest tradition started in 1810 to celebrate the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities which were held over five days on the fields in front of the city gates. This year, festivities will run until October 4, 2010. Collected here are a few images from this opening weekend.

Priyanka Chopra beats Big B, Khans on twitter

'Desigirl' Priyanka Chopra, an avid twitter user, has left behind Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan, and three Khans-- Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman-- when it comes to garnering maximum number of followers on twitter.

Zinta has about 390,080 followers while 'Om Shanti Om' star Deepika Padukone is third with 85,226 fans.

Salman Khan, who has been in the eye storm for his comments on 26/11, is third after Shah Rukh. The actor may have decided to quit twitter following the

10 things I hate about Angelina Jolie

Whats new: Angelina Jolie wore bright red lipstick during her entire trip to Moscow.
1. The collective amnesia: You may be the UN’s goodwill ambassador now — but you used to be a self-harming, blood-vial wearing misanthrope, a fact everyone conveniently overlooks. Or maybe I’m the only one who remembers how you locked lips with your brother at the Oscars.
2. The mother-earth reincarnation: Like a phoenix from the flames, you emerged from the ashes of your former marriages in the guise of a kindly matriarch. As you began expanding your brood with alarming speed and determination, every formerly independent, successful, childless woman was plunged into a spiral of self-doubt. We still haven’t recovered.
3. The perfect babies: Shiloh’s perfect pout and blonde hair will cement her presence on Page Six for the rest of her life. If that wasn’t enough, even the babies you didn’t give birth to are adorable.
4. The perfect post-baby body: Your ability to squeeze into skinny jeans weeks after giving birth to twins is perhaps even more unsettling than your ability to be a

Imran Khan rejects calls for cricket ban

Imran Khan said Pakistan's cricket team has long been a target of British tabloids.
KARACHI: Imran Khan brushed aside calls to ban his Pakistan from international cricket until corruption allegations are investigated, saying a country cannot be punished collectively.
Former England captains Ian Botham and Michael Vaughan had demanded for Pakistan to be kicked out of international cricket until a probe into their cricketers has been completed.
Their calls followed allegations of spot-fixing against Pakistani cricketers during their ongoing tour of England, which triggered a war of words between cricket officials from the two countries.
Former Pakistan cricket captain Khan said a country cannot be thrown out on the basis of allegations.
“In any form of illegal activity you cannot give collective punishment to a country and deprive millions of fans, more so because these are still allegations yet to be

Angry England hit back at Butt remarks

Angry England hit back at Butt remarks
The England & Wales Cricket Board has announced that it will be taking legal action against Ijaz Butt, the chairman of the PCB, after describing his allegations that England's players accepted a bribe to lose the third ODI at The Oval as "wholly irresponsible and completely without foundation".

However, in a strongly-worded statement on behalf of the ECB and the England team, it was announced that the final two matches of Pakistan's tour would go ahead as planned. "It remains in the best interests of world cricket, the players and in particular of cricket supporters that the tour should continue, and it would set a dangerous precedent to call off a tour based on the misguided and inaccurate remarks made by one individual."

Butt's allegations were of such extraordinary gravity that the ECB waited almost 24 hours before formulating its official response, and their statement was only issued after a lengthy meeting between the ECB and Team England, which stretched late into Sunday night. Present at the discussions were the ECB's chairman Giles Clarke, the CEO David Collier, the managing director of

Microsoft founder bill gates said he wont be leaving hi $56 billion to his kids, but some money but not a meaningful percentage, said Bill Gates.

Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have three children - Jennifer, 14, Rory, 11, and eight-year-old Phoebe.

Bill Gates said:
I will give the kids some money but not a meaningful percentage. Setting the number so that they need to work but they feel reasonably taken care of is hard to figure out. I knew I didn't think it was a good idea to give the money to my kids. That wouldn't be good either for my kids or society. So the question was, 'Can I find something that had incredible impact?' I knew I wanted to do that.

‘Even if I was purple’ people would be frustrated: Obama

US President Barack Obama makes an unannounced visit to the Reading Terminal Market for a cheesesteak sandwich, mint chocolate chip ice cream and apples on September 20, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama dismissed suggestions Monday that his cerebral style and exotic background made it tough for him to empathize with the economic fears of heartland Americans.
Obama’s critics have frequently argued that his intellectual and academic leadership style or his upbringing in Hawaii, and for several years as a boy in Indonesia, make it hard for him to connect with everyday citizens.
“I think when the unemployment rate is still high and people are having a tough time, it doesn't matter if I was green, it doesn't matter if I was purple. I think people would still be frustrated and understandably so,” Obama said in a town-hall style meeting on the

Zardari urges end to cricket blame game

The President expressed concern over the match fixing allegations.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari discussed with British High Commissioner Adam Thomson on Monday the issue of match-fixing allegations levelled against the Pakistani cricket team and assassination of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq in London.
According to sources, President Zardari, who is the Patron in Chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, expressed concern over the match fixing allegations and said the blame game should be stopped by both sides.

Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar refused to comment on the matter discussed at the meeting.

The president also asked Mr Thomson to convey his request to the UK authorities to complete investigation in Mr Farooq’s murder case as soon as possible.

The spokesman said the president called upon the British government and EU countries to further pursue the progress recently made at a foreign ministers’ meeting of the

Karachi violence takes ominous turn

A paramilitary soldier stands alert near a fire during a protest by Shia Muslims in Karachi on September 20, 2010 against the targeted killing of their community members.
KARACHI: At least nine people were killed in incidents of violence in Karachi on Monday.

Commercial centres remained closed and traffic thinned out as tension and fear gripped some areas during funeral of five people who were shot dead on Sunday night.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Farooq Sattar held the federal interior ministry and the Sindh home department responsible for the renewed wave of violence in the city. “If they are not responsible, then they should tell us as to why they failed to curb the acts of terror in the city,” he said at a press conference here on Monday.

He said that conspirators wanted to malign the MQM in the eyes of the international community by linking the fresh incident of targeted killings with the assassination of Dr Imran Farooq.

At least three people were killed and six others injured on Monday during violence in Nazimabad area after a young man was killed allegedly in firing by the Rangers. He was returning home with dozens of other people after attending the funeral of a victim of target killing, officials and
