Brazil lights world’s largest floating Christmas tree
RIO DE JANEIRO: Thousands of people turned out in Rio de Janeiro for the lighting of the world’s largest floating Christmas tree in Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. A concert, featuring master of ceremonies Jose Mayer and singer Simone, officially inaugurated the Christmas celebrations, which will conclude the holiday season with a big party on New Year’s Eve. The 85-meter (278-foot) floating tree, adorned with 2.9 million lights and 1,600 Christmas ornaments, required 52 kilometers (32 miles) of cables to light. The 520-ton tree has already made it into the |
Lenovo teases S800 phone with translucent color display, won't let anyone touch it
Step aside, Sony Ericsson, your Xperia Pureness has been beaten at its own game by an enigmatic new handset that Lenovo has been showing off over in China. The above images come from a Beijing fashion event, where Lenovo chose to debut its S800 featurephone with a color translucent display. It looks to still be at the concept stage, one that not many of these luxury items seem to ever exit, but lest you think it's not for real, the models showing it off at the
60 year-old remote-controlled robot made from scrap parts makes a dramatic, beautiful comeback
This is George. He's a six-foot tall robot handmade from the aluminum scraps of a crashed bomber in 1950. George is remote controlled, and was built by Tony Sale, the same man who recently resurrected the nearly forgotten robotic darling from the storage shed where he's spent the last 45 years or so. Some oil and batteries were all it took to get
Hidepon Works turbine train: small enough to be adorable, big enough to ride
Well, don't ever knock Japan for not considering absolutely everything. The home to some of the world's biggest, cleanest and fastest trains is also home to one of the most minuscule, but unlike those toys you'll unwrap during the holiday season, this bad boy actually serves a bona fide purpose. Designed and showcased by Hidepon Works, the contraption you see above is actually a gas turbine-powered model train, and while it's small enough to bring a smile to your infant's face, it's
Computer Engineer Barbie now available, and her phone has been upgraded since we last saw her
We were fairly impressed with Computer Engineer Barbie's Linux laptop and cellphone when we last saw her at the Toy Fair in New York City. Well, the doll is available now, and her gear has gotten an upgrade for the retail version. The pink laptop now boasts some kind of custom Barbie operating system, and yes, she seems to be sporting an iPhone these days. We assume this is a tie in with Mattel's Barbie 'I Can Be' iPhone app, but we also remember from our childhood that Barbie is an
PlayStation Phone 'Zeus Z1' caught on video again, this time you can actually see it (update)
Wow guys, we just spotted a new video of the PlayStation Phone, codenamed Zeus Z1, and this time we get a long, loving look at the entire device -- a refreshing contrast to last time's blurry tease. In addition to appreciating just how fat this phone is, and just how real it is, you can clearly see a "PlayStation" icon, which should hopefully put to rest any doubts that this phone will actually play PlayStation games. Check out a close-up of the icon after the break. Oh, and by the
Street View Shocker! Google pays Boring couple $1 for trespassing
It's hardly a surprise that there's a cadre of individuals who aren't too fond of Google's seemingly omnipresent Street View fleet, but the ending of this dispute is downright absurd. Back in 2008, Aaron and Christine Boring were looking for a little excitement, and decided to find it in a courtroom; the duo sued Google for trespassing on their property while collecting photographs for Street View. According to them, Google's Street View car ignored the "No Trespassing" sign planted out front, and while they noted that that would've accepted a simple apology letter, they had no
Veena Malik in Jism 2 ?
Actress turned filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has delivered one of the most sexiest Bollywood movies in 2003, Jism, starring Bipasha Basu and John Abraham. A perfectly in shape model John debuted in Bollywood with this movie and became a craze among the youth. The sizzling chemistry between Basu and Abraham rocked the viewers and the film was a roaring hit.
There were talks regarding a sequel of this movie earlier but nothing materialized. It is probably because they could not bring John and Bips together anymore for repeating their seductive act. Now again, the talks are rife about Jism 2 and Pooja Bhatt is seriously thinking about the lead cast, who can replace the hot couple.
There was a buzz that Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez of Aladin fame has been approached to enact the leading lady. But this did not go well with the Jism and they openly expressed their displeasure over her name on a microblogging site. Pooja Bhatt also rubbished reports saying that they never thought of Jacqueline.

First Look: Kangna is inked out
The actress reveals more about the new inking, "I call this the warrior angel. I got my earlier tat done about a month ago. It was small and basic consisting of just a cross and wings.
This one is bigger and more elaborate. Sameer is excellent at detailing and concealing. He has added angels, wings, a crown and a sword around my earlier tat in such a way that he didn't have to remove it.
I have also designed rose buds on top of the rose handle to make it look more feminine. "
She says she always wanted to have a tattoo based around the concept of a sword and angels with wings.
"I have always been a fighter no matter what my

It's final. Ranbir Kapoor's world tour in July 2011 would have him sharing the stage with Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and Malaika Arora-Khan. A fifth girl is yet to be finalised. But it won't be Deepika Padukone or Sonam Kapoor.
Says Rishi Kapoor, the 70 per cent producer of Ranbir's first world tour and the lad's dad, "Unfortunately Shahid Kapoor can't accompany us. We've got Atif Aslam instead. He's a huge draw among Asians abroad. The show will be youth-oriented."
