Strings & Atif Aslam: ‘Azme Alishan is the answer to our challenge’

Internationally acclaimed Pakistani pop artists endorse Azme Alishan by donating their inspirational song Ab Khud Kuch Karna Paray Ga
Karachi, Tuesday 28th September: Multi-award winning Pakistani pop artists the Strings and Atif Aslam have thrown their weight behind the fast-growing Azme Alishan initiative by donating their latest hit song to the patriotic movement at a special press conference in Karachi today.
The song “Ab Khud Kuch Karna Paray Ga” (We need to do something for ourselves) – a Strings collaboration with the international renowned and popular vocalist Atif Aslam – was launched to critical acclaim in July, its inspirational lyrics striking a chord with the youth in particular. However, many people responded by asking what they could practically do to make a difference. The artists’ have found positivity in Azme Alishan and its activities seen over the year.
“Azme Alishan is all about bringing people together and encouraging them to commit to building a better future for Pakistan” said Bilal Maqsood of the Strings band. “Since the

Sonakshi, the next best thing, feels SalluThe female casting for Shirish Kunder's Joker starring Akshay Kumar has been caught in a game of musical chairs.

Deepika Padukone (who seems to be suffering from amnesia) says she was never approached for Joker! Akki, who is also co-producer, was keen to have her in the project.

He should perhaps jog Dippy's memory. Meanwhile Salman Khan has been recommending his Dabangg co-star Sonakshi Sinha.

Apparently, Sallu has been trying to convince Akki to take Shotgun Jr in Joker. The newbie is already part of Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick (at Sallu's insistence).

He feels she is the next best thing. Maybe he should leave the casting to the directors, no?

Kangna`s close shave with death! Get`s a new lifeThe Bollywood actresses are turning bolder these days, not only in the sense of doing intimate scenes but also doing the stunts themselves without taking the help of a body double.

But such boldness turns very risky sometimes and such an incident happened to actress Kangna Ranaut recently when she was shooting for Sanjay Dutt and Irrfan Khan Starrer movie Knock Out.

The accident took place while shooting a scene where Ranaut was reporting on Irrfan’s character, who was not coming out of a telephone booth after repeated requests thus creating a suspicion among the law enforcing authorities. The scene required to show a speeding truck go up in the air and then come crushing down.

Director Mani Shankar sensed the risk involved in the scene and asked Kangna to opt for a body double. But Kangna showed her confidence to perform the scene herself.

A source associated with the film was quoted saying that when the shooting was conducted, the truck went up in the air but when it came crushing down, it caught fire and went spinning towards Kangna.

Speaking on this, Kangna said that she could not realize the risk involved with the scene when the director briefed her but she was shocked to see the truck on fire

Shahid, Priyanka's close moments In Goa!

Shahid, Priyanka's close moments In Goa!

Shahid, Priyanka`s close moments In Goa!Lots of speculations have been made and said about the alleged Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor relationship but it seems that there is no end to it. Now, there is a report that the two Bollywood stars had recently gone for a short holiday in Goa!

It seems that they want to come out of the 'good friends' tag to a publicly declared couple. Last month, when Priyanka left for Brazil to shoot for the reality show 'Khatron Ke Khiladi', she was reportedly dropped by Shahid.

The actress left for Brazil on 16th August and came back to Mumbai on 8th September, which was a gap of almost one month.

A source was quoted saying that soon after returning from Brazil, the unofficial couple made a plan to spend some time together and had a very short one-day trip to Goa. They had reportedly left on September 9 and spent just one day there. Priyanka was scheduled to leave for Delhi on the next day and the promotions of her Anjaana Anjaani followed after that.

An eyewitness was quoted saying that the

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina are totally committed to each other? Here is why Ranbir and Katrina are still shh... about their love

After Deepika Padukone (sort of) 'outed' new beau Siddarth Mallya during the release of Lafangey Parindey, all eyes are now on her ex Ranbir Kapoor who is busy promoting his upcoming release Anjaana Anjaani. Will the actor use the platform to finally admit to being in a relationship with Katrina Kaif?

RK and Kat -- together for over a year -- have been together for more than a year and are feeling the pressure of keeping their relationship a secret. The Kapoor clan has already welcomed Ms Kaif with open arms, so why hide their love, right? The answer's simple enough: Salman Khan.

Gimmick, anyone?
While Kapoor's ex has moved on, Kat's ex still believes she is single. A source close to Sallu confides, "He believes the Ranbir-Katrina romance to be a gimmick to promote their films together. " It started on the sets on Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani and became stronger during Raajneeti.

They were slated to work together in Anurag Basu's Silence but Katrina walked out due to script problems. But Katrina and Ranbir are slated to go on a world tour next year.

The couple who are totally committed to each other are

Bipasha Basu and Ajay Devgn starrer movie Akrosh, which is based on honor killings in the state of Haryana, was set to hit the theaters on October 1. But, the release date of the film got delayed due to the Ayodhya verdict. Now, it will release on the same day when John's movie Jhoota Hi Sahi will release.

The couple will face such competition at the Box Office for the first time in their nine year long career in the industry.

Bipasha has shared this on her micro-blogging page Twitter. The actress has expressed hope that both the movies do well at the Box Office.

Australia’s first Muslim MP sworn in on Quran

The first Muslim elected to Australia’s parliament was sworn in on Tuesday with his hand on his parents’ Quran.
Ed Husic, whose mother and father are Bosnian migrants, said it was an enormous privilege to serve in Canberra as he conceded that his unique place in Australian political history was something of a milestone.
“Given my background, there are some people taking a small slice of pride or happiness,” he told The Australian newspaper.
Husic, a former union boss who grew up in the western Sydney area he represents, won his place in the 150-seat House of Representatives in Canberra for the ruling Labor Party in August 21 polls.
He was among the MPs sworn into Australia’s 43rd parliament by the chief justice of the high court in Canberra on Tuesday.
Muslims make up about 1.7 percent of Australia’s heavily Christian population of 22 million.
Husic was upfront about his religion when interviewed last month.
“If someone asks me are you Muslim I say yes. And

Prince Charles still to open Commonwealth Games

Prince Charles will open the Commonwealth Games in Delhi next week, the heir to the British throne’s office has said, playing down reports of a row over who would preside over the ceremony.
Indian officials had said that following Queen Elizabeth II’s decision in May not to travel to the Games, the piqued organisers had discussed whether Indian President Pratibha Patil should instead open the Games.
A spokeswoman at Clarence House, Charles’s official London residence, said both president and the prince would play a role but insisted that Charles would formally open the games as the official stand-in for his mother, the queen, who is the head of the Commonwealth.
“Both the Prince of Wales and the President of India will have a prominent role in the opening ceremony in Delhi,” a Clarence House spokeswoman said on Monday.
“The Queen has asked the Prince of Wales to represent her at the opening of the Commonwealth Games.
“We cannot be specific about the choreography but the

Lifestyle factors link to headaches

Teenagers who are overweight, get little exercise, or smoke, have a higher risk of recurrent headaches as compared to others.
Headaches are among the top five physical complaints of teens, even more frequent than asthma.
To clarify the effects of lifestyle factors on headache, researchers followed 5,847 teenagers from Norway, aged 13 to 18 years old, who were asked to complete a comprehensive questionnaire regarding their physical activities and smoking habits.
Overall, 36 percent of girls and 21 percent of boys reported that they had recurrent headaches in the previous year. Tension-type headaches were most common, but one-quarter of girls with recurrent headaches reported migraines.
It was found that each of the three factors overweight, low physical activity and smoking was linked to an increased risk of headache problems, after taking into account the other two lifestyle factors age and gender.
Nearly 55 percent teenagers who were overweight, less active or smoked reported headaches, compared with 24 percent of teenagers who were normal weight, non-smokers and exercised at least twice per week.
Overweight teens were 40 percent more likely to

Ajmal Kasab is reading Quran in prison

Ajmal Kasab is now a days reading the Holy Quran in Mumbai jail.
When his advocate, Farhana Shah asked him if he was reading anything these days, Kasab replied, “I am reading Quran for the past few days” she said.
The Bombay High Court had asked Kasab’s advocates to meet him in Arthur Road Jail on Monday.
Kasab told his lawyers that he wanted to attend the confirmation proceedings in-person.
However, the HC rejected his request, citing security concerns raised by the prosecution.
The HC has asked the State to make necessary arrangements for production of Kasab through video conferencing in two weeks’ time. The court has fixed the

Tokyoflash reaches new heights of unreadability with latest concept watch

Technically speaking, the maze-like aray of diagonals you see above is actually showing you the time. But, as is Tokyoflash's wont, the point here isn't so much about time itself as it is about the journey of figuring it out. Well trained ninjas might be able to decouple the numbers from their unhelpfully similar background, but for the rest of us this "Optical Illusion" LED watch will be an enigma of random black lines wrapped inside a lime green mystery. Thankfully, it does come with a button to clear away the mists of confusion if you ever need to, you know, actually tell the time. The watch remains a concept for now, but if enough people vote in favor of its unnecessarily convoluted design, Tokyoflash might just go ahead and build a few. So why not jump off the fence and make your voice heard in the

Motorola's wraparound S10-HD Bluetooth headphones: for the Usain Bolt in all of us

Clearly, introducing one Bluetooth headset in a single day just isn't enough for Motorola. In addition to the Oasis, the outfit has also let loose the new S10-HD, a wraparound set that is marketed as Bluetooth headphones rather than a BT headset (though it's fully capable of acting as either / both). As expected, these guys are designed to withstand all sorts of sweat beads, enabling fitness junkies to keep on rockin' in the free world regardless of how steamy the conditions may be. We're also told that the speakers are recessed in their housing with a new ear cushion interface and hydrophobic acoustic mesh (fancy!), and silicon seals are in place around all of the electrical components. Should you receive a call while streaming tunes, it'll gently pause the music until your call is done, and afterwards it'll resume automatically. The

Sony Ericsson LiveView acts as a 1.3-inch remote control for your smartphone, requires Android 2.0

You've been asking for someone, anyone, to please kick out a tiny remote control display that can save you from having to whip your smartphone out for every little thing and Sony Ericsson, it seems, has listened. The 1.3-inch OLED screen above is a new Bluetooth accessory for Android 2.x phones that's said to function very much like a desktop widget. There's an app you can install on your phone that'll get it to communicate with the 128 x 128 pixel grid, which can then be used to read messages, find your phone, control music playback, and receive those precious social networking updates from your friends. We know by now you'll be crying foul over Sony Ericsson dishing out an Android 2.0 accessory when its handsets are stuck somewhere below that marker, but the plan is to dish this "micro display" out in the last quarter of the year, after that messianic Android 2.1 update has

6 things college freshmen need to know

When The New York Times asked Ph.D. students to counsel college beginners, the advice was startlingly frank — from 'dump your boyfriend' to 'embrace your ignorance'
Student-to-student advice: Unhook from the internet at least a few hours a day.
Student-to-student advice: Unhook from the internet at
As college freshmen head off to school for the first time, The New York Times asked six graduate students, the sort of Ph.D. candidates who "actually grade [freshmen] papers and lead their class discussions," to counsel the newbies on how to get the most out of university life. Here, a quick sampling of their best tips:
Diversify your assets
"Make friends with people who grew up much poorer than you, and others much richer. Date someone of a different race or religion. (And no, hooking up at a party doesn't count.)"

Cultivate town-gown relations
"Explore the town you're living in. Meet people who are not professors or fellow students. If you spend all of your time on school grounds, then it becomes too easy for the criticism from an occasional unkind professor or the conflict with a roommate to take on a monstrous scale."

Seek out research opportunities
"A curious, competent undergraduate can always find work assisting a researcher" and there's "something powerful in seeing how the right experimental or analytical approach can

Is kissing your kid on the lips creepy?

A stepmom stirs up debate when she complains about her husband's habit of giving his little girl a lip-to-lip kiss
Consider age, some say, when giving your kids a peck on the lips.
Consider age, some say, when giving your kids a peck on the lips.
Is it wrong for parents to kiss their kids on the lips? This uncomfortable debate, now preoccupying parent blogs, was triggered by an exchange on the syndicated advice column, Dear Margo (penned by Ann Landers' daughter, Margo Howard). An advice-seeker who identified herself only as "Want My Husband's Lips for Myself" complained that her spouse kissed his 5-year-old daughter (from a previous marriage) on the lips, something she considers a "sexual gesture and very inappropriate," but which her husband insists is harmless and natural. Is lip-to-lip parental affection creepy?
The wife is the creepy one: We'll have to side with the father in question here, say the editors of the blog Mother Talkers at Opposing Views. There is nothing "odd in the

Dr. Aafia is an alleged Al Qaeda, CIA agent: Marvi Memon

KARACHI: A prominent, vocal Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Marvi Memon has said that Dr. Aafia is an alleged Al Qaeda and CIA agent; till she is proven innocent in Pakistani courts, she can not be called as the daughter of Pakistan or a national hero.

Marvi, talking to SAMAA, has said that the reality about Dr. Aafia is being hidden and all political leaders and government representatives are trying to gain political mileage and applause from the people by expressing popular sentiments about her.

She added that she and many others did not participate in the parliamentarians' walk out staged on Monday, so it can not be called as an unanimous walk out in favor of Dr. Aafia. She continued to say that she has the courage to speak her heart out, while others who avoided the walk are afraid of people’s anger and have chosen to remain silent.

Memon further added that apart from the US allegations, she has come to know through other sources that Dr. Aafia has been accused of being an agent of

The first promo of 'Break Ke Baad' is attention-grabbing

Gone are the days when every second film-maker would cast a successful pair in a love story, to capitalize on their popularity. The actors never complained either, for they felt that the success of their previous film together would rub off on the new one as well. But times have changed, actors are keen to work with co-stars they haven't worked with earlier.

Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone have been teamed for the first time in BREAK KE BAAD, produced by Reliance Big Pictures and Kunal Kohli and directed by debutant Danish Aslam. The first thing you notice in a love story [yes, BREAK KE BAAD is a prem kahani] is, how good does the pair look together and I must say, Imran and Deepika look incredible together and the

iPad vs. PlayBook... fight!

Okay, we've got a long way to go before we can do a fair, apples-to-berries comparison between these two titans of industry, but consider this your first sneak preview of the deathmatch to come. As we mentioned in the previous post, the PlayBook is hopelessly locked away in insanely thick Plexiglas -- and the iPad is unactivated, though that doesn't much matter for getting a sense of the size comparison between 'em. Needless to say, the PlayBook looks way easier to

Atmel confirms the Samsung Galaxy Tab uses its maXTouch touchscreen controller

We're guessing it hasn't kept too many folks up at night, but those curious about the multitouch brains behind the Samsung Galaxy Tab now finally have their answer: Atmel's maXTouch touchscreen controller. As you may recall, that was first announced over a year ago, and promised to bring a whole host of benefits to multitouch devices, including unlimited touch functionality, and faster, more precise input than competing devices. Interestingly, Atmel has also boasted that its controller is able to recognize touches even with gloves -- in addition to styli -- but it's not clear if the

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 11 review

Sure, the word is that ultraportables – or 11- to 13-inch laptops – aren't selling particularly well, but that hasn't stopped Lenovo. In fact, the company's had a particular obsession with 11.6-inch lappies over the last six months or so, but sadly each has massively disappointed. Adamantly claiming not to be a netbook, there was first the ThinkPad X100e, which we found to be great in terms of design and size, but seriously hurting (literally!) in thermals and endurance. Then there was the IdeaPad U160, which packed Core i7 CPU power, but had a rather dreadful three hours of battery life. But the third time's got to be the charm, right? The ThinkPad Edge 11 has the same chassis as the other Edge laptops, which hold a special place in our heart, but is powered by an ultra-low voltage 1.33GHz Core i3 U380 processor, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive. It's not too shabby for its around $550 starting price (the AMD-powered version starts at $449), but has Lenovo learned from the past? Is this the 11-inch notbook (our new term for a machine that looks like a netbook, but is way more powerful) to rival the

BlackBerry PlayBook first eyes-on!

So RIM's got these PlayBooks locked in thick Plexiglas that seems specifically designed to prevent you from seeing the side, though we don't know why they'd want to do that considering it's a sexy 9.7mm thin. Anyhow, the screen seems pretty great -- we're not sure if it's IPS, but it's definitely high-res and should function really well for video and gaming. All told, it looks like it'll be about as easy to lug around as the Galaxy Tab, which makes sense considering we're looking at the

Kim Kardashian happy without men

Reality star Kim Kardashian is trying to be happy being single and insists she doesn't need a man to keep her company.

The 29-year-old socialite, who has dated NFL player Reggie Bush and soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo in the past, believes she could be content on her own, but thinks she will one day find love because it makes life "more entertaining", reported Contactmusic.

"I feel like I don't need a man, but I'm also such a hopeless romantic. I really think that having someone makes everything more entertaining. I don't think you need a guy to make you happy but it's nice to have one," said Kardashian.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who has just split from Dallas Cowboys football player Miles Austin - is planning to be single for the foreseeable future but if
