RAIPUR: Hundreds of tonnes of explosives have gone missing in transit in India over several months, police said Thursday, amid fears that militants or illegal mining outfits might be involved.
About 160 truckloads of explosives sent from Rajasthan state to neighbouring Madhya Pradesh in central India have failed to
arrive since April.
“Two people have been arrested by police, and rewards have been offered for four other men,” Anwesh Mangalam, the inspector general of police in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, told AFP.
“Whether people are involved in illegal mining or militants, all are equally dangerous to the country, and the police are investigating the matter,” he added.
The total amount of missing explosives is about 900 tonnes, officials said.
