Eccentric pop star Lady Gaga has overtaken singer Britney Spears to become the Queen of
Twitter, having more followers than any user on the micro-blogging website.
The 24-year-old singer is being followed by more than 5.7 million users on Twitter, a popular haunt of Hollywood celebrities.
Gaga and Spears have been neck-and-neck for the top spot but the Pokerface hitmaker has now gone way ahead with 5,770,511 followers compared to Spears' 5,713,911 followers.
Last month, Gaga had won the coveted spot of the first living person to have over 10 million Facebook fans, beating none-other-than US President Barack Obama.
She thanked her fans for the honour while holding a sceptre and wearing a pointy hat in a picture to inaugurate her reign as Twitter queen.
"Hello world, this is Lady Gaga, queen of Twitter. I wanted to thank all my beautiful little monsters for following me. May you always have soft cuticles while tweeting and may you never have carpal tunnel," Gaga wrote in a post.
