VIDEO: Japan’s theft prevention…orange balls?

i don’t think it’s really going out on a limb to say that Japan’s technology and creation skills are unparalleled. But did you know one form of theft prevention they use is just a plastic orange ball? Read on to see how it works.

So, if you didn’t gather it from the video, the idea is that the orange ball is filled with paint and, when thrown at a robber, will mark the criminal. Then police will be able to find him and, hopefully, recover the goods.
It’s sort of brilliant. Though, if I were a robber, I’d probably just shoot the person about to throw a paintball at me. The system isn’t perfect. But it’s better than my solution of telling police, “It was an Asian man. Kind of short, has black hair.” Not sure how much that’d pare things down.
