Ronni Chasen, publicist to some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, was shot dead just hours after she walked the red carpet with Cher and Christina Aguilera for the premiere of their film Burlesque.
According to police, the celebrity PR person was shot five times in the chest shortly after midnight, reported CNN online.
Just hours earlier, she had attended the premiere of 'Burlesque'. The 64-year-old then went on to an afterparty and was driving home in her Mercedes when she was shot, police said.
Hollywood's celebrity neighbourhood has been rocked after Chasen was gunned down in a mystery shooting.
Officers found her car crashed into a light pole just off Sunset Boulevard.
Chasen was taken to the nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said they had no information about a suspect or motive for the fatal shooting, an extremely rare occurrence in the neighbourhood that Hollywood's top stars have long called home.
A well-known figure in film circles, Chasen previously served as vice-president of publicity at MGM studios.
