Salman Butt ‘disappointed’ by ban
Expressing disappointment over the 10 year ban by the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti-corruption tribunal, former national skipper Salman Butt, on Sunday, vowed to go to Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“All I can say is that I am disappointed with the verdict, but I will only be able to speak at length when a detailed judgement comes, Salman Butt told reporters at Lahore airport on his return from Doha.
Butt said the ICC tribunal failed to prove spot-fixing allegations against him, instead he was
punished for being captain of Pakistan cricket team.
“I don’t agree with a 10 year ban and once the rules in the code of conduct are amended, which the head of the tribunal has also requested to be done, then I hope the punishment can be reduced,” he said.
The tribunal had rejected the statements of Shahid Afridi, Coach Waqar Younus, former security manager Khwaja Anjum News of the World correspondent Mazhar Mahmood and the decision to ban the trio was solely based on the footage, added Salman.
The International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption tribunal on Saturday banned Butt for 10 years (five suspended), Asif for seven years (two suspended) and teenager Aamer for five.
