See the New Trailer for God of War: The Indie Movie

Those guys over at Gamervision have done it again.  You remember Inglourious Plummers from back in August 2009, right?  If not, shame on you!  Go watch it now.  Their next awesome "what if this was really a movie" movie trailer is an indie-styled adaptation of the lovable Kratos from Sony's blockbuster series God of War.  They describe it as "a unique romantic black comedy in the proud tradition of Rushmore and Gigantic."  That sounds about right.  That's what those games were about, weren't they?
It's a coming-of-age tale of a teenage Kratos and his troubled rise through the ranks in the schoolyard at Spartan Academy.  Like most young boys, he falls in love, and - like most young boys - it's with the one girl he shouldn't.  If you're a fan of Kratos, or indie films, or unique things, or the magnificent song "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes... this trailer is a must see.  Please make this film a reality, Gamervision!  I don't care about all those silly legal ramifications like copyright laws - this is just too great not to share.

US fitness guru urges yoga for fat soldiers

Asked by the US military for tips to help combat the growing problem of obesity in the ranks, a popular television fitness guru came up with an unusual answer: mind-soothing and body-bending yoga.

"I know inclusion of  in military training sounds a tad alien," Tony Horton, 52, acknowledged as he presented his techniques to a group of 200 people, many clad in gymwear, at the National Press Club in Washington.
"The days of push ups, sit ups and long runs in the military are over," said Horton, whose functional fitness concept combines equipment-free, body weight-based exercises with push-ups, sit-ups and yoga postures.
"Yoga magnifies the positive effects of strength and cardiovascular exercises," he said. "It's lubricating all the major joints and reduces the potential for injury."
The fitness trainer best known for his trendy "P90X" workout regime has trained celebrities like Usher, Bruce Springsteen and Sean Connery, as well as soldiers at military bases, including Andrews Air Force Base and Fort Bragg.
As Horton demonstrated, men and women of all sizes struck yoga poses, arms and feet outstretched.
"Obesity is a national security issue," Horton said, repeating a warning issued earlier this year by two senior retired generals, John Shalikashvili and Hugh Shelton, both former chairs of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff.
"People are too fat to fight," the fitness trainer added.
Pentagon studies say the military's obesity rate has nearly doubled since 2003. According to Horton, the military saw its obesity rate nearly triple from 1995 to 2008 alone, while the overall number of obese troops has grown from 1.6 percent in 1998 to 4.4 percent in 2008.
In the United States as a whole, more than two thirds of states now have an adult  rate above 25 percent, Horton said. In contrast, not a single state had a rate above 20 percent in 1991.
The US military also faces a problem with troops already serving who are overweight, Horton said.
"The failure to meet fitness standards has meant each year thousands have had to deal with canceled promotions, loss of education opportunities," he added.
"The statistics are profoundly disturbing."

Control games with the power of your mind

The recently unveiled Natal for the Xbox 360 will let gamers control what happens on-screen just by moving their body- but one company is going one step further, allowing you to control games simply with the power of your brain.
Mind control is a concept previously thought impossible, but technology design company Emotiv claim to have designed the worlds first headset that allows you to communicate your thoughts onto a games.
The Emotiv Epoc consists of 14 sensors that read the electrical signals from billions of nerve cells – or neurons – in the brain, which are communicated wirelessly to a computer.
Similar technology has been designed before- electroencephalography (EEG) headsets are used by hospitals to diagnose epilepsy. However the Emotiv Epoc comes at a unique pricepoint, costing only $300. It can also be connected to almost any domestic computer.
The BBC were on hand at the TED Global (Technology Entertainment and Design) conference in Oxford to give the headset a run through.

The Town (Trailer)

Ben’s new flick is called The Town. Set in Boston, it tells the tale of a professional thief (Affleck) who falls for a bank manager while evading a tenacious FBI agent looking to catch him and his crew before they pull another heist. Ben has assembled another amazing cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Blake Lively and Chris Cooper. The plot resembles a combination of Heat and Point Break. Not sure how that will play out, but the trailer looks solid. Could this be the movie that snaps Ben’s lengthy losing streak? We shall see. The Town opens September 17th.Back in 2007, Ben Affleck made his directorial debut with Gone Baby Gone. The movie didn’t blow me away, but I was very impressed with Affleck’s skill behind the lens. His blocking was on point and he coaxed some great performances from his actors — most notably little bro Casey and the Oscar nominated Amy Ryan.
