Czech female politicians pose for hot, completely not boring calendar

This May, the Czech Republic voted in more female members of Parliament than ever before, and to celebrate that fact they have got together to create a sexy calendar to sell to the public. As you do. 

The Public Affairs party's 2011 calendar sees the likes of Katerina Klasnova, 32, the new vice speaker of parliament's Chamber of Deputies, posing in a dressing gown and bra, accompanied by a small dog. 

Karolina Peake, 34, Czech Member of Parliament, lies back on a bed, clutching at her chest. The party's chief negotiator, Kristyna Koci, appears on December's page, all stockings, negligee and sheer political sex appeal. 

MP Lenka Andrysova (Miss March, black stockings, crawling onto a sink and, um, brushing her teeth, bizarrely) has said in the calendar's defence that: "We want to draw attention to the fact that we have women in politics" – an objective they've certainly achieved with flying colours. 

44 women in total entered the lower Czech Parliament this year, allowing more progressive groups such as The Public Affairs party a little more opportunity to spread their wings... and take some of their clothes off. 

Marketa Reedova, 42, the party's candidate for Prague mayor has said on the topic that "Women's political influence is growing. Why not show we are women who aren't afraid of being sexy?" Well, quite. 

That said, we won't be campaigning for a British version here at Asylum.co.uk any time soon. We're far too respectful for that. Besides, how could we beat snaps like these?

The terrifying moment a race car rolled into crowd of spectators

Spectators ran for their lives when a race car sailed through the air towards them after a dramatic crash in Australia.

The Mini had clipped another vehicle during the race in Brisbane, rolled along the track - then sailed through the air straight towards the crowd of spectators.

It seemed that disaster was only a split second way as the red vehicle dropped down towards the scattering crowd.

Amazingly, the Mini came to rest having only struck two men, neither of whom sustained life-thretening injuries

Yet only two people were hit and were said to be recovering from their injuries in hospital.

'It's amazing that more people were not seriously injured,' said Australian racing legend Dick Johnson.

'This particular race track is very sub-standard... You have to look after people who pay money to come to these places.'

The Mini Cooper S struck two men - aged 59 and 60 - as it smashed through a fence, took to the air and came crashing down. They suffered head injuries, which were to be 'not life-threatening'.

Even the 22-year-old driver Kain Magrow escaped unhurt.

Spectators were amazed that he was able to step out of the wreck of the number 8 Mini, which had rolled several times before hitting the fence and soaring through the air.

The Psyche Of Gamer Haters

I’m always shocked by the sheer number of haters towards video games. There’s always that one person in every group who due to their contractual obligations by Haterade must not only dislike games, but would be more than happy if you put down the controller for good. It’s a phenomenon that I thought would go away with time. Games have expanded, have become more mature and more of an “everyone” thing. Yet Negative Nancys still go about their merry way. After independent research, my findings suggest that gaming’s RPH (or Raw Hate Percentage) is significantly above movies and television; somewhere below pornography and making cocaine.

But I wanted to know what fuels these Gamer Haters. I wanted to know what makes them tick and the source behind their bad stigma towards video games. I conducted my own anonymous interview with one Gamer Hater who’s been actively hating for over 20 years. We will call her “Mom.”

Now, Mom presented a prime opportunity for study as she has a husband in addition to a son that plays video games. Both subjects play for a few hours a day and she has made it clear she finds it counterproductive, despite extended TV sessions herself. I was ready to shed light on the hypocrisy and show her the error of her ways.

“How do you feel about video games?”

“I feel like they’re very counterproductive and mostly a waste of time. I think they’re addictive.”

Bingo.

“Could there be anything in or about a video game that would possibly interest you?”

“Not really.”

“I see. Let me ask: what makes video games worse to you then, say, a passive activity such as watching TV or a movie for an extended amount time.” I’ve got her now.

“TV and movies can be done in moderation and don’t require as much time or attention as video games. The very nature of video games makes them addictive so if given the choice I think it’s better if someone doesn’t.”

Well, fuck. She’s pretty right on with that one.

Games are made to be addictive. If you don’t want to keep playing into the wee hours of the night they’re not doing their job. My thinking has always been that if it’s a more engaging activity than watching TV it must be better, but maybe that’s the very problem.

Plenty of women play video games (It’s 2010. This isn’t another girl gamer article, I swear) and it’s no big deal. But the percentage of women who don’t play games outweighs the men who don’t however, despite women playing in large numbers these days. I think it’s safe to say though that while women aren’t necessarily Gamer Haters, Gamer Haters are mostly women. Perhaps it’s the apparent addiction that turns them off from playing video games. My fellow male gamers must share the blame for this monster, though. There would be no reason to hate if the guys weren’t doing something to encourage it.

We have to be better at projecting the hobby in a good light. It’s hard for anyone who doesn’t play games to understand why you can’t pause or turn off an online deathmatch when they’re trying to get you to do something else. No matter how you slice it, what you’re saying is that the game is more important then whatever they’re trying to get you to do at that very moment. It’s not hard to imagine getting peeved at being one-upped by Master Chief on the totem pole of Importantness.

Haters are annoying, no doubt, but for fuck’s sake please don’t give them any extra incentive like unpausable Team Fortress matches when you’re supposed to be raising your kids or having sex with your girlfriend. Game responsibly. Future generations of gamers will thank you for it.

Android Tablets: What We Know

We’ve rounded up what we know about upcoming Android tablets to see if any devices will give the Apple iPad a true rival.

With the success of Apple’s iPad, virtually every manufacturer is brainstorming their own version attempting to ride the tablet wave. Sound familiar? The tablet market seems to be following the path of smartphones, but there is a key difference this time: Apple doesn’t have quite the head start they had back when the first iPhone was released. Android has made a big dent in the mobile industry and it’s looking to do the same for tablets. Apple sold 3 millioniPads in the first 80 days and they’re expected to sell around 20 million more in 2011. If Android wants to get its foot in the door then the time is now, before they fall behind again and it takes years to catch up. More and more manufactures are unveiling plans for tablets and the vast majority are choosing Android (sans HP with their Web OS tablet). Below we’ve rounded up everything we know at this point about upcoming Android tablets and when they might hit the market.

Archos 7

The Archos 7 features a 7-inch (800×400) display, 8GB of internal storage along with a micro SDHC slot (for additional storage) and an ARM Cortex A8 processor. The Archos 7 has been available since March and it runs for $199.99.

Cisco Cius

Last month Cisco revealed its plans to join the tablet arms race with the Cius. The Cius will pack a 7-inch screen, a 720p webcam on the front and a 5 megapixel camera on the back. No firm launch date has been set, but Cisco has stated that they’re shooting for early next year.

Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet

Velocity Micro will step away from its luxury gaming throne to dabble in the emerging Android tablet market with the release of their Cruz Tablet this summer. It will feature a 7-inch touch-screen, 4GB of built-in storage, and will accept SD cards for additional storage. The Cruz Tablet will release this summer at a surprisingly low price of $300.

Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000

Samsung unveiled a picture of its upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab last month and it looks like the iPad’s smaller twin. It will feature a 7-inch AMOLED display, Android 2.2, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD expansion slot, and will be powered by a 1.2GHz A8 processor. The Galaxy Tab is expected to launch sometime this summer and a larger 10-inch tablet from Samsung has been rumored to follow.

Dell Streak

Stewart Wolpin thought the Streak was closer to a large cell phone than a tablet in hishands-on impressions, but it’s being promoted as a tablet so we’ll play along. The streak will feature a 5-inch display, 5 megapixel camera, and integrated social media apps such as Twitter and Facebook. No solid release date has been set for the Streak, but its unlocked price is expected to be $500.

Notion Ink Adam

The Adam will be the first tablet on the market to feature the Pixel Qi display. The 10-inch transflective LCD display offers 3 different modes for viewing including a reflective e-paper mode for low power viewing even in bright sunlight. The Adam is expected to be released in Q3 of this year in selected countries.

ICD Ultra

ICD’s follows up its 15-inch Vega tablet with the ICD Ultra, a smaller Android-based device. The ICD Ultra will feature a 7-inch touchscreen display, a NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset, and integrated 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Pricing and a final release date have not been set.

Pandigital Novel

The Pandigital Novel can be classified as an eReader but since it features a web browser and media player we think it crosses into tablet territory as well. The Novel will features a 7-inch color 800×600 touchscreen, an SD card slot for adding storage, and will integrate with the Barnes & Noble eBookstore. It will be priced at $199 and is slated to go on sale this month.

NEC Life Touch

The Life touch will feature a 7-inch TFT LCD screen, ARM Cortex A8 processor and 256MB of RAM. The Android 2.1 device is expected to be available in Japan in October with no official price as of this article.

Google Tablet

Details are still scarce on the rumored Google Android Tablet. There have been reports that Verizon and Google are working together on a tablet, but at this point we don’t even know if Google’s Tablet will run on Chrome OS or Android.

Acer Tablet

The Acer tablet looks very similar to its LumiRead e-book reader that was announced at the same event back in may. Not many details have been released but we do know that it will feature a 7-inch color display, will run Android, and has a likely Q4 release date.

LG Tablet

LG announced on July 6th that they will be jumping into the Android tablet market. They didn’t however provide any details on the device, only stating that it plans to release it in the fourth quarter of this year.
