Iran opens trial of 3 Americans on spy charges
An Iranian court is holding a closed-door session to begin proceedings against three Americans detained 18 months ago and accused of spying.Authorities imposed a blanket ban for observers, including Swiss Ambassador Livia Leu Agosti who represents U.S. interests in Iran.
The Americans were detained in July 2009 along the Iraqi border. They claim they were hiking in Iraq’s Kurdistan region and — if they crossed into Iran — it was inadvertent.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram admitted that the lengthy bans handed out to Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer for corruption represented a new low for the besieged sport in the country.“I feel sad for all three of these kids, two just over 20 and one just 18,” Wasim told AFP.

Salman Butt ‘disappointed’ by ban
Expressing disappointment over the 10 year ban by the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) anti-corruption tribunal, former national skipper Salman Butt, on Sunday, vowed to go to Court of Arbitration for Sport.“All I can say is that I am disappointed with the verdict, but I will only be able to speak at length when a detailed judgement comes, Salman Butt told reporters at Lahore airport on his return from Doha.
