RAAJNEETI in all time Top-3, Arjun reacts
Of course inflation needs to be taken in account and that would mean many a big hits like GADAR, HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN and SHOLAY are any day bigger hits. However, if one looks at just the net figures and does a relative comparison, RAAJNEETI is in an enviable position. Naturally Arjun Rampal, who other than Ranbir Kapoor has gained most from the film, is ecstatic.
"To know that your film has attained a classic status and is boasting of collections next only to 3 IDIOTS and GHAJINI is something that doesn't happen every year", says Arjun who is maintaining his success record year after year, "The way RAAJNEETI has sustained at the box office for full four weeks after an astonishing start is mind blowing."
The actor, who is gearing up for the release of WE ARE FAMILY now, goes on to add, "I am extremely happy. Really it is all so overwhelming and if my words seem to be repeating, then excuse me for that because that is due to the enthralled state that I am currently in."
`Twilight Saga: Eclipse` to release in India on July 30
Eclipse`, the third film in money-spinning `Twilight` franchise is all set to hit screens in India on July 30, a month after its US release.
The film will be released in the country by PVR Pictures, who also brought `Twilight` and `New Moon` to India.
The hugely populare vampire romance, based on novels of American author Stephanie Meyer, revolves around the unusual love between mortal Bella Swan and her supernatural lovers undead Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner).
"`Eclipse` will be released in India on 30th July. We are planning a wide release. The film will be in English and Hindi but we also hope to dub it in Tamil and Telugu," PVR Pictures` head of distributions, Deepak Sharma told reporters.
`Eclipse`, which was released in the US on June 30, moves further the romance between Bella and Edward. The film sees the return of vampire Victoria, who is hell bent on killing Bella to revenge the death of her partner.
Victoria and her army of new born vampires forces sworn enemies --vampires and werewolves -- to come together.
`Eclipse` has been directed by David Slade. Summit Entertainment has already announced that the final `Twilight` book `Breaking Dawn` will be split into two parts, with the first set to open on November 18, 2011.
Emraan: 'The thick moustache makes me resemble Dawood'
If Ajay Devgn is sharply reminiscent of Haji Mastan in 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai', Emraan Hashmi unfailingly brings to mind… Dawood Ibrahim!
"It's probably the thick moustache that I grew for the film, which makes me resemble Dawood Ibrahim to a certain extent," admits Hashmi in a tabloid talk. "The director Milan Luthria felt that it would give me a more mature look. I loved my 'retro' get up in 'Once Upon…' with the flared bellbottoms, wide collared silk shirts, king size sunglasses, platform heels and long hair, all of which added superbly to the 'look' of the 1970s, in which the film is set."
Fatherhood to Ayaan, notwithstanding, Hashmi is clear that his professional and personal lines are clearly demarcated. And the 'serial smoocher' isn't swatting the idea of kissing onscreen though he admits that "being a father has made me a lot more responsible."
Hmmm…. so he swerve into liplock mode with Prachi Desai in 'Once Upon…'?
Guess, Hashmi's lips are sealed…
Bachchan 'KBC4' Forward, Salman 'Dus' Backward!
Amitabh Bachchan casts a loooooonnnnggg and redoubtable shadow, as a certain Salman Khan
found out recently.
In the wake of the media buzz surrounding Bachchan Senior's return to 'KBC4', Khan's 'Dus Ka Dum 3' has been pushed to the backburner!
Bachchan's game show is slated to illumine the telly in November/ December 2010… and Salman's 'DKD3' which was to be upgraded to a much larger scale will make its appearance only in 2011.
A channel source states, "The Mumbai officials have been told by their superiors to put 'DKD3' on hold, and concentrate on Bachchan's 'KBC4' since it is the channel's baby and they have the privilege to broadcast it themselves. They're pooling in all their resources to make it grand. They will look at 'DKD3' only after they have put 'KBC4' in place and preferably on the floors."
Five Films To See In July
Today is the first day of July and with it we get a brand new month for movies. There are a lot of big releases coming out this month and we’re going to give you a list of the top five and why you should see them. Here it is, the five must see films for July.
#1. Inception – July 16th – Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe and Joseph Gordon-Levitt
If the name Christopher Nolan isn’t enough to get you out of the house and into the theatre to see Inception, well I don’t know what is. Nolan is directing the film and with a filmography that boasts films like The Dark Knight, The Prestige and Memento, Nolan is truly a director who can do no wrong.
Not only is Nolan behind the camera, but in front of the camera he’s put together an all star cast that is one of the best ensembles in recent memory. Leading the cast is DiCaprio (The Departed, Gangs of New York, Titanic) and like Nolan, is someone who doesn’t really make bad films. Throw in a mind bending premise and an ending that is sure to leave you with your jaw open, Inception is one movie you have to see this month.
2. Dinner For Schmucks – July 30th – Starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd
Sneaking in at the end of the month is Dinner For Schmucks. Being helmed by Jay Roach, the man who brought us Meet the Parents and Austin Powers, Schmucks will easily be the funniest film of the month. Carell, best known for his role in The Office and Rudd most well known for I Love You Man are two of the funniest people in Hollywood and the chemistry between them should provide more than enough laughs. Throw in Zach Galifianakis, who was the funniest part of The Hangover and you got the recipe for a very funny film.
3. Predators – July 9 – Starring Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo and Laurence Fishburne
Based on the classic 1980′s film Predator, the new version will take place 13 years after the last Predator film. It will focus on a group of warriors who encounter alien creatures known as Predators. Brody was last seen scaring audiences in the June film, Splice and you can be assured that Predators will be equally as creepy. The trailers that have been released all look pretty scary and anyone who was a fan of the original Predator films should definitely check this one out.
Brody leads a solid supporting cast that includes Topher Grace (Spiderman 3), Danny Trejo (who you can catch in the upcoming and highly anticipated Machete), and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix). Also popping up in the cast is Walton Goggins, who is most well known for his role as Shane on the TV show The Shield (which is a phenomenal show by the way). Expect Predators to be a great popcorn flick, offering scares and thrills along with big and loud action. In other words, you’ll have a good time watching this one. 4. Salt – July 23 – Starring Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber
Salt looks like it will be the “Bourne” movie for the summer of 2010. The film tells the story of Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who goes on the run after being accused of being a spy. Jolie takes on the lead role in this film as she portrays Salt. From the looks of it, the film will offer some great action and thrills and can probably be best compared to the “Bourne” movies.
From what I’ve seen in the trailers the film does look promising although I’m expecting it to be more heavy on the action side than on the plot, which is fine. Either way, if you’re looking for some thrills and fast paced action, Salt may be the movie for you. 5. The Kids Are All Right – July 9 – Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Josh Hutcherson
A film that’s probably not on many people’s radars is The Kids Are All Right. It’s a smaller film but one worth seeing nonetheless. For one, it stars the future Spiderman, Josh Hutcherson. Most people probably haven’t seen anything Hutcherson has been in so this may be a good chance to see him on the big screen.
The film also looks pretty funny judging by the previews. It revolves around two children, who were born through artificial insemination. The children seek out their birth father and bring him into their life. All the early reviews have been fairly positive and the cast is very solid. It looks like the film may strike more of a chord with critics rather than commercially but I’d still recommend checking it out. Is The iPhone 4's LCD the Best?
If you place the latest smartphones side by side the first thing you'll probably notice is that all their displays dazzle—but why? Image quality can be difficult to express but there is a way to measure it. To evaluate and help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of various displays, we powered up our luminance and chromaticity meters and recruited the help of Dr. Raymond Soneira and his DisplayMate display test and evaluation suite.
We compared the Apple iPhone 4, Motorola Droid X, HTC Droid Incredible and HTC EVO in terms of brightness, contrast, color depth, and color accuracy. Then we picked an overall winner for best smartphone screen.
These top smartphones use three different screen technologies. The Droid X and HTC EVO use traditional TFT LCDs, like you'll find on most phones. TFT LCDs can give very different results if they're tuned differently, though. The iPhone's screen is an IPS LCD, a variant on TFT LCD where the molecules of liquid crystal are parallel to the panels as opposed to perpendicular. The Droid Incredible is AMOLED. Each display technology has its different advantages and disadvantages. AMOLED could one day replace LCD because it offers superior contrast, but it's still expensive to manufacture and is not nearly as bright as LCDs.
There's another screen technology coming. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S phones use Super AMOLED, which supposedly reduces the reflectivity of AMOLED and increases the apparent brightness. We haven't gotten much time with any of those phones yet, but we're looking forward to it.
Some iPhone 4 have Camera Coloring Problems. Really?
As the image shows, that picture taken with iPhone 4 in warm indoor lighting without flash has a clear yellow and greenish cast. But the same picture taken with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and Canan 5D has no such problem.
Apple hasn?t confirmed this issue neither have they responded to the emails of the guys who reported this problem. The report also mentioned that this is most likely a software issue and Apple can fix it with a software update.
We are not sure how many people are actually having this issue. It looks like only a small number of users are facing this problem that?s why it wasn?t highlighted before. Even then, we hope that Apple fixes this issue soon.
Or maybe Gizmodo needs to highlight this issue too?

Netherlands knocked out Brazil from FIFA World Cup 2010
The Netherlands came from behind to break Brazilian hearts as Felipe Melo's own goal and Wesley Sneijder's header secured a 2-1 quarter-final win in Port Elizabeth.
'Virginity test' helps free 3 in Vietnam rape case
Traditional medicine practitioner Pham Thi Hong started lobbying for the men's release, pleading their case all the way to the president, because she believes all three men are virgins and therefore could not be guilty of rape.
"They all had small red spots on the back of their ears," said Hong, 54. "The spots should have disappeared if they had had sex. My many years of experience told me that these men did not have sex before."
Her claims are unusual even for a country where acupuncture and traditional medicine are still common remedies, but Hong's determination to have the case reopened ? even threatening to light herself on fire ? led to prosecutors re-examining the case. The convictions eventually were suspended due to flaws by initial investigators.
"Thanks to her efforts, investigators revisited the case which otherwise could have been buried," said Nong Thi Hong Ha, a lawyer for one of the freed men.
Hong says she discovered the spot on Nguyen Dinh Kien's ear the first time he visited her for treatment four years ago. He was brought to the hospital from prison, where he was serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted of gang raping a 20-year-old woman in 2000.
After seeing the spot on Kien's ear, Hong believed his insistence that he was innocent. She later examined his two alleged accomplices and began a campaign for their release. Eventually, President Nguyen Minh Triet ordered that the case be re-examined.

Armless girl get's a pilot license
Jessica Cox, 25, a girl born without arms, stands inside an aircraft. The girl from Tucson,
Arizona got the Sport Pilot certificate lately and became the first pilot licensed to fly
using only her feet.
Jessica Cox of Tucson was born without arms, but that has only stopped her from doing
one thing: using the word "can't."
Her latest flight into the seemingly impossible is becoming the first pilot licensed to fly using only her feet.
With one foot manning the controls and the other delicately guiding the steering column, Cox, 25, soared to achieve a Sport Pilot certificate. Her certificate qualifies her to fly a light-sport aircraft to altitudes of 10,000 feet.
"She's a good pilot. She's rock solid," said Parrish Traweek, 42, the flying instructor at San Manuel's Ray Blair Airport.
Parrish Traweek runs PC Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Services and has trained many pilots, some of whom didn't come close to Cox's abilities.
"When she came up here driving a car," Traweek recalled, "I knew she'd have no problem flying a plane."
Doctors never learned why she was born without arms, but she figured out early on that she didn't want to use prosthetic devices.
Fifa WC quarterfinals set for today
Updated at: 0539 PST, Friday, July 02, 2010 JOHANNESBURG: In the Friday's first match, Brazil will play the Netherlands at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Some are calling this game worthy of a World Cup final. Both teams seem to be in top form before the game. The Dutch have won all four of their World Cup matches, and Brazil coach Dunga describes them as a very difficult opponent. He says they are a solid team with technical quality and their style of soccer is very similar to South American football. Brazil is one of four South American teams to reach the final eight. The five-time World Cup champions will be without midfielder Elano, who scored in each of Brazil's first two matches. He has been ruled out of the game against the Netherlands after bruising a bone in his right ankle during a victory over Ivory Coast. But, the Brazilians have so much talent and depth that Elano's absence is not expected to have much impact. They have won three matches and drawn with Portugal, and are coming off a convincing three-nil victory over South American rival Chile. The winner of the Brazil-Netherlands match will face either Ghana or Uruguay in the semifinals. Those teams meet in Friday's second quarterfinal at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. Uruguay, which lifted the World Cup trophy in 1950 and at the inaugural tournament in 1930, is aiming for its first World Cup semifinal appearance in 40 years. "The Black Stars" of Ghana, meanwhile, are bidding to make history for Africa. No African team has ever reached the World Cup semifinals. Ghana's Serbian coach, Milovan Rajevac, says the prospect of becoming the first African team to reach the final four will motivate his squad. And Asamoah Gyan, who has a team-leading three World Cup goals for Ghana in South Africa, says "The Black Stars" are delighted to be representing Africa at this stage. "We are so happy for this qualification because it is so important for we Ghanaians and the whole of Africa," said Gyan. "We qualified for the 1/16th [Round of 16], that was four years ago in Germany. And this time, we were able to qualify to the quarterfinals. So, I think it is a big achievement for the Black Stars." Another member of "The Black Stars," midfielder Sulley Muntari, says Ghana has much respect for Uruguay. "They are a very good side - a very, very, very good side. So, we are not going to underrate them. We are just going in to play our football and try our best to win," said Muntari. Uruguay features top strikers Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan, who was born into a family of footballers. His father, Pablo, played for Uruguay at both the 1966 World Cup in England and the 1974 World Cup in Germany. Ghana coach Rajevac describes Forlan as a fine player and his team will need to beware of Uruguay's attacking threat. |

Ride bike to keep the weight off: study
MIAMI: Just five minutes of riding a bicycle each day can help a younger woman keep the pounds off, U.S. researchers have reported in a study offering one potentially easy way to help Americans slim down.
The heaviest women benefited the most, the team at the Harvard School of Public Health and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston reported. "Small daily increments in bicycling helped women control their weight. But the more time women spent bicycling, the better," said Harvard's Rania Mekary, who worked on the study.
"Women with excess weight appeared to benefit the most. This is encouraging for women with weight problems because they could substitute bicycling for slow walking or car driving."
Research team studied 18,414 healthy women who had not yet gone through menopause taking part in the Brigham and Women's Hospital-based Nurses' Health Study, an ongoing study of women's health over time.
Space jump daredevil tests suit -- with bungee
Updated at: 0909 PST, Friday, July 02, 2010 VIENNA: Felix Baumgartner - who plans to do a free-fall skydive from the edge of space - has tested his pressurised space suit by doing bungee jumps. During his Red Bull Stratos mission Baumgartner will use a helium balloon to float to the edge of space before plummeting back to Earth at speeds of 690mph. To make sure he is comfortable in his suit, which needs to protect against temperatures of -56C, his team are now conducting a series of tests which have included stepping-off from the actual capsule, high-altitude skydives and the bungee jumps -- carried out in a deserted fairground. But at just 200ft fall per bungee jump, Baumgartner will have to do 600 to match the 120,000ft he will fall during the actual jump . Speaking of the test bungee jumps, Technical Project Director Art Thompson said, "You wouldn’t normally think of a bungee jump in terms of prepping for a high-altitude jump, but it gives Felix the sensation of what it’s like to step off and try to control his forward rotation. Despite his elation with progress made so far, Baumgartner admits that he still has moments of concern. Noting that no amount of technological testing can ever rule out human error. "My biggest concern is that dangerous part of the project which we just haven’t thought of. We try to think of every contingency, but there’s always going to be something that you would never imagine could happen. And that might kill you," he said. |
