US embassy demands immediate release of Davis

The United States embassy in Islamabad on Saturday called for the immediate release of Raymond Davis, the US diplomat who was arrested for gunning down two men in Lahore on Thursday.

China denies plan to create world’s biggest city

Authorities in southern China’s Guangdong province have denied planning to unite nine towns to create the world’s biggest city in the Pearl River delta, according to state media.

Why so many B-town hotties using abusive language?

Bollywood stars have been quite liberal in their movies these days with a lot of abusive language and cuss words being used by top leading stars as if it was something as natural as night and day.

There are recent Bollywood films like Kaminey, Yeh Saali Zindagi, No One Killed Jessica just to name a few where so many cuss words have been used by protagonists as if there was nothing as entertaining as these in our films. 

Yet when it comes to analyzing these very movies where quite a lot of noticeable such words or phrases are used it seems almost strange that despite these very bold dialogues littered with such words these movies have done considerably well at the box office.

This goes on to say to a certain extent that probably the modern Indian audiences are quite comfortable with this language.

IT officers seize Katrina's computer to find tax fraud

In the latest developments of the Income Tax fiasco involving actresses Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif, the IT officials have seized the computer of Katrina. They want to collect more data related to the tax evasion suspicions. 

The income Tax officials had raided the homes of these two actresses on Monday 24th January 2011. The raids were conducted at 7.30 a.m.

According to reports, both of them did quite a number of shows last year and both have not declared huge sums of money that they earned through those shows. The amount could up to Rs.6.Crore. Further reports mention that crore of rupees were recovered from their homes.

The IT department will look into Katrina and Priyanka’s bank accounts and also interrogate their business managers. MJ imprints slab up for auction

 LAS VEGAS: A 375-pound cement slab which has an imprint of late King of Pop Michael Jackson's hands, feet and signature is to go under the hammer.

The singer made the impression back in 1984 for a Las Vegas Walk of Fame project, which never came to fruition, reports the Daily Star.

The cement block, which has been dubbed the 'Broken Heart Stone' because of a crack running through a heart shape on Jackson's left palm print, was found in the basement of the Riviera Hotel in 2006.

It was then raffled off to a guest, who sold it on to the current owner in 2009.

 LONDON: Cutting back on steak, sausages and salami could help prolong your life, according to the most comprehensive study done on meat and mortality.

A team of researchers tracked half a million Americans over a decade and found those who ate more red and processed meats appear to have a "modestly increased" risk of dying from all causes, and specifically from cancer or heart disease.

In contrast, those who ate more white meat have a decreased risk of dying, and in particular of dying from cancer.

New rooms discovered in Egyptian pyramid

 PARIS: French architect Jean-Pierre Houdin unveiled in Paris on Thursday the existence of two hidden and so far unknown rooms in Egypt's Great Pyramid.

No one had ever suspected the existence of any such rooms. But in his many visits to Khufu’s king’s chamber, Houdin noticed that one stone element in the burial room was not supporting any weight and therefore had once been a passage.

According to funeral rites of ancient Egypt, kings would be buried with all their belongings in close proximity. In other pyramids these items are situated in a room adjacent to the burial room.

Twin bombings in Kohat tunnel; 4 dead

 PESHAWAR: At least four people including two women were killed and 19 others wounded in twin truck bombings that targeted a key Kohat tunnel late Friday, officials said Saturday. 

The attacks took place late Friday night in and outside the tunnel which connects the main city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to the city of Kohat.

In the first attack, "an explosive-laden truck entered the tunnel and blew up, badly damaging another truck behind it, wounding five people," top administration official in Kohat, Shahidullah, told media.

Mubarak sacks government, vows reforms

 CAIRO: President Hosni Mubarak sacked Egypt's government and vowed to bring in democratic and economic reforms, in a televised address early on Saturday after deadly anti-regime protests.

"I have asked the government to resign and tomorrow there will be a new government," a stoney-faced Mubarak said after four days of protests demanding his resignation in which at least 27 people have been killed.

He vowed to pursue economic and political reforms.

"We will not backtrack on reforms. We will continue with new steps which will ensure the independence of the judiciary and its rulings, and more freedom for citizens," Mubarak said.
