Ferrari team escapes further punishment

Felipe Massa is ahead of Fernando Alonso during the early stages of the German Grand Prix.
Felipe Massa is ahead of Fernando Alonso during the early stages of the German Grand Prix.

Motorsport's world governing body, the FIA, has decided not to punish Ferrari further for giving Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa team orders during the German Grand Prix in July.
The Formula One giants ordered Massa to allow Alonso to pass him at Hockenheim, a decision which saw them handed a $100,000 fine by race stewards for breaching sporting regulations.
Ferrari supremo Stefano Domenicali claimed at the time there were no team orders -- and that it was Massa's decision to let Alonso past despite the Italian clearly getting instructions to

US govt slams Quran burning plans

WASHINGTON: The Obama administration Wednesday said the decision by a Florida pastor to burn the Holy Quran on September 11 is ‘un-American’ and warned that such actions could endanger US’ interests in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
Hoping that the Dove World Outreach Centre pastor would not commit the act which he had announced, State Department spokesman PJ Crowley said the US is aware of the adverse implication this would have on Americans overseas civilians, diplomats and the military.
“We think that these are provocative acts, they are disrespectful, they’re intolerant, they’re divisive, and we’re conscious that a number of voices have come out and rejected what this pastor and this community have proposed. We would like to see more Americans stand up and

The woman with the smallest feet in the world

Ms. Liu, a 90 year old woman living in China, is the current record holder for world’s smallest feet. And not just by being born so, but because of a horrible tradition to prevent the growth of these members. Basically, the fingers of the young and the arches are brutally broken, without any pain relief, and then they applied a bandage and placed her small shoes that prevented the normal growth of both feet. In China, really small feet in a woman are considered “intensely erotic.”

Toshiba Libretto W105 review

At this point Toshiba's dualscreen Libretto W105 shouldn't need much of an introduction -- or at least after glancing at the picture above we figure it won't. It looks like a laptop straight out of the future. And it kind of is. It's the sort of clamshell gadget we've seen rendered and rendered for years, but that's never made it to market... until now that is. In celebration of Toshiba's 25 years in the laptop business, the company's gotten bolder than ever, and it hasn't just created a gadget with two seven-inch capacitive touchscreens, but it's actually brought it to market. Sure, it's only available for a very limited run, and at a lofty $1,100, only die-hard gadget geeks are bound to fork over the cash. That said, it's still one of the most intriguing devices we've seen all year, and that's saying something. And it's even more compelling when you consider that packs the parts of a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable, including an Intel Pentium processor, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB SSD and also runs Windows 7. But that's exactly what's wrong with the

US Quran burning would be 'outrageous': Vatican

Pope Benedict XVI blesses the faithful gathered at the Vatican for his weekly general audience.
VATICAN CITY: The planned mass burning of copies of the Quran in the US state of Florida would be “an outrageous and grave gesture,” the Vatican said on Wednesday.
The Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue said in a statement it had “received with great concern the news of the proposed 'Quran Burning Day,'” scheduled for the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
“Each religion, with its respective sacred books, places of worship and symbols, has the right to respect and protection,” the council said.
A small church, the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, has vowed to mark Saturday's ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks by burning Qurans as they

Hollywood's 'It' couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have spent a whopping $ 40 million on a mansion in Italy.

The couple nicknamed 'Brangelina' by tabloids already own a luxurious Los Angeles mansion, a $3.5 million French-style home in New Orleans and a villa in France worth $ 10 million.

Jolie apparently fell in love with Italy after filming 'The Tourist' with Johnny Depp there earlier this year, reported Daily Mail online.

Situated in the Northern Italian hills of Valpolicella, the mansion boasts 15 bedrooms, seven baths, a movie theatre, two swimming pools, a gym and several Jacuzzis.

The property also has stables and a vineyard. That

Woman's claim to be Michael Jackson love child denied

A woman claiming to be the love child of the late pop legend Michael Jackson has had her case thrown out by a Los Angeles judge.

Mocienne Petit Jackson, who filed documents with the Los Angeles county superior court in July demanding a DNA test to prove she is the offspring of the late King of Pop, had her request denied Tuesday, reports tmz.com.

Mocienne claimed she should be entitled to a share of Jackson's estate, which too has been dismissed by the

Gaga causes outrage with raw meat 'bikini'

Lady Gaga has taken her penchant for risque outfits to the next level by posing in a bikini made out of raw red meat on the cover of Japanese Vogue magazine.

The bikini is made out of red meat draped strategically over her body. On the cover of magazine she poses with one hand on her hip and another on her head with what appears to be a steak under it.

The Poker Face singer's latest stunt has prompted a furious response from animal rights campaigners, reported Daily Mail online.

Gaga has come under fire from PETA for the cover. "No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a

India's $35 Android tablet reportedly on track for January launch

It seemed like a bit of a stretch from the beginning, but it looks like India's $35 Android tablet is intent on proving the skeptics wrong -- the Indian government has just announced that it's awarded the manufacturing contract to HCL Technologies (makers of the once world's cheapest laptop), and that the first batch of tablets are slated to be available by January 10th. That initial run will reportedly only include the 7-inch model that we've been seeing all along, but there's also apparently 5-inch and 9-inch versions planned for launch at a later date. We also presume that the tablet is still hanging onto that $35 price tag (for university students, at least), but that key detail is curiously absent from this

Yo Nokia, you can keep your E5 and its HD Voice fanciness, we want ourselves an N-KIA E68. Why, we hear the enraged Nokia acolyte ask, why would we defile Nokia's good name in such a manner? Mostly because this phone has one of the most fun and ingenious slider mechanisms we've seen yet. So what if we've got no idea what wannabe OS it's running and so what if it'll most likely fall apart on us a month into owning it? We still want one, dammit! Video after the

Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal issued charge-sheets by ICC

Sources say PCB was totally unaware about the activities of Salman Butt who was elevated to the post of Test captain for the current tour of England after Shahid Afridi had stepped down in the first Test.
LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued charge-sheets to two of the leading Pakistani cricketers after finding their replies to the show-cause notices served on Aug 21 as unsatisfactory.
Well-informed sources in the PCB told Dawn that the two players are Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal who recently received the charge-sheets issued by the ICC.

“The ICC had issued show-cause notices to both players on Aug 21 and asked them to reply within 14 days. As per the notices, the players were asked to provide their mobile phone numbers which they had used during the World T20 in the West Indies besides some other information,” the sources claimed.

Both the players submitted their replies to the ICC but finding them unsatisfactory, the game’s governing body handed charge-sheets to the two which were delivered at their personal addresses and not through the PCB, sources claimed.

Sources further said that although the PCB had some reports about the wrongdoings of Kamran Akmal, it was totally unaware about the activities of Salman Butt who was elevated to the post of Test captain for the current tour of England after Shahid Afridi had stepped down in the

Japan journalist says he tricked captors with Twitter

This photo taken on September 7, 2010 shows Japanese freelance journalist Kosuke Tsuneoka during a press conference in Tokyo after returning to Japan following five months' captivity in Afghanistan.
TOKYO: A Japanese freelance journalist freed after a five-month hostage ordeal in Afghanistan says he used Twitter to announce he was still alive under the noses of his captors, who did not understand English.
Kosuke Tsuneoka, 41, who had been missing in northern Afghanistan since April, was speaking in Tokyo following his hand-over Saturday to the Japanese embassy in Kabul.
Addressing the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on Tuesday, he said he was held hostage by a military faction called Hizb-i-Islami (Islamic Party), which is allied with the government of President Hamid Karzai.
Tsuneoka said that one of his captors “came to me with a Nokia N-70 model which was the

Victory the only answer to Pakistan cricket crisis

Pakistan cricket fans and former players believe only winning will allow the team to overcome a match fixing scandal that has resulted in several players being suspended.
Zaheer Abbas, known as the Asian Bradman, said on Wednesday that one win could boost the morale of the team which lost back-to-back, Twenty20 internationals against England this week.
“Victory is the only solution to lift the morale of the team,” Abbas said on Thursday.
England clinch the Twenty20 series 2-0 and the two teams will start a five match, one-day series on Friday.
During the Twenty20 matches, the ongoing investigation of the Pakistan players appeared to take its toll with the team’s batsmen especially looking out of sorts.
The ICC has provisionally suspended Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif after a British newspaper alleged they were paid to deliberately bowl no-balls in a test match against England.
They have 14 days to decide whether they want to appeal against the suspension.
Most of the Pakistan batsmen fell to poor shot selection on

Quran burning still planned: Church leader

The leader of a small church in Florida said he was still praying about whether to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11, a plan the White House, religious leaders and others are pressuring him to call off.
The Rev. Terry Jones said he has received more than 100 death threats and has started wearing a .40-caliber pistol strapped to his hip but still did not back off his plan on Tuesday to burn the Holy book.
The 58-year-old minister said the death threats started not long after he proclaimed in July that he would stage “International Burn-a-Quran Day.”
Supporters, though, have been mailing copies of the holy text to his church of about 50 followers to be incinerated in a bonfire on Saturday to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Gen. David Petraeus took the rare step of a military leader taking a position on a domestic matter when he warned that “images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan – and around the world – to inflame public opinion and incite violence.”
Jones responded that he is also concerned but is “wondering, ‘When do we stop?”‘ He refused to cancel the protest at his Dove World Outreach Center but said he was still praying about it.
“How much do we back down? How many times do we

Afridi facing tough task in boosting Pakistan

Pakistan one-day captain Shahid Afridi admitted he had a job on his hands to raise the morale of his scandal-hit side after they were bowled out for just 89 by England in a thumping Twenty20 loss.
Pakistan were dismissed for their lowest Twenty20 score in 40 matches at this level at Sophia Gardens here on Tuesday as England won by six wickets to wrap up a 2-0 series win with a mammoth 36 balls to spare.
World Twenty20 champions England, who completed a 3-1 Test series win over Pakistan last month, will now look for fresh success when the teams meet in the first of five one-day internationals at Chester-le-Street, northeast England, on Friday.
“We were very bad, inexperienced and immature from my side and from all the batsmen,” Afridi told reporters. “I think we played very bad cricket.
“It will be a big challenge to compete in the one-dayers, but we have some time,” he added.
“Me, my coach (Waqar Younis) and the team, we will sit together and talk.”
Pakistan’s tour has been overshadowed by a ‘spot-fixing’ scandal that has seen Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif all suspended by the International Cricket Council after allegedly conspiring to deliberately bowl no-balls during last month’s fourth Test at Lord’s.
But Afridi said off-field problems could not account for Pakistan’s form.
“We are coming through a bad situation, but as professionals we

Nokia N8 launches September 30, says senior manager

Tapani Kaskinen is Nokia's Senior Comms Manager, so it's fitting that he'd be the first person from the company to communicate a solid release date for its long-awaited N8 handset. The gent in question told Finnish newspaper Kauppalehti that advance orders of the N8 will "begin shipping 30 September." Bear in mind we're chewing through a machine translation here, but that part's pretty unmistakable. It also meshes perfectly with earlier speculation surrounding Nokia purchasing Google AdWords -- that indicated a one-week exclusive starting on September 23rd for Nokia's UK online store, which, if you do the math, again points to a wide release at the end of the month. We asked Nokia about it ourselves and they're remaining mum on the matter, but chances are looking pretty good that October will start with

XWave lets you control your iPhone with your noodle, levitate if you're lucky

In the early, chaotic, primordial years of the mobile phone era, you had to press real, actual "buttons" to get things done. Almost barbaric to think about now, isn't it? As society advanced and we gradually became a more civilized species, buttons gave way to touchscreens and voice control, mercifully giving the atrophied sausages we call "arms" and "fingers" a bit of respite every time we needed to surf through cyberspace, place a phone call, or send a text message. Now, it seems the evolution of Homo sapiens is reaching its inevitable final stage with the release of the PLX XWave, headgear that plugs into your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad and -- after a bit of training -- lets you control the device with your mind alone. As you might expect, the headset makes use of the NeuroSky technology that we've seen several times through the years and will be made available with a number of apps upon its release next month including a game, dedicated training app, a music controller (which will let you compare brainwaves with other XWave users, interestingly), and an "Om Meditation Timer." If none of those titles have captured your imagination, you'll be able to write your own apps with the device's SDK; needless to say, we'll be patiently waiting for the levitation app depicted here. Orders are online now for
