TV channel reporter thrashed in Sialkot lynching

SIALKOT: Hafiz Muhammad Imran, a private TV channel reporter who captured the footage of lynching of two brothers on Aug 15, was brutally tortured and injured by some unidentified motorcyclists outside his residence in Ghauspura-Hajipura locality here on Sunday morning.
 

The attackers fractured both arms and shoulders of Imran before being thrashed him soundly. They escaped when people gathered there. The injured reporter was rushed to the DHQ Hospital. 

Imran told journalists at the hospital that Interior Minister Rehman Malik during his visit to Hajipura on Aug 22 had directed the police to provide security to him, but to no avail. 

He said the accused had been threatening him for capturing the footage of the lynching episode. 

He said he had also submitted his written applications to Gujranwala Regional Police Officer Tariq Yaseen and Sialkot DPO Bilal Siddique Kamiyana for the provision of security a few days back. 

Hajipura SHO Rana Zahid said the police had arrested accused Imran Bhatti of Buttar village for attacking reporter Hafiz Imran. 

SURRENDERED: Two sub-inspectors wanted in the lynching incident have surrendered to their senior police officials here on Sunday. 

Accused SIs Gulzar Khan and Abdul Rasheed were nominated in the FIR for showing negligence. 

Accused Gulzar was accused of silently watching the lynching of two brothers while accused Abdul Rasheed had helped accused inspector Rana Muhammad Ilyas escape from custody on Aug 21. 

Meanwhile, a joint investigation team completed the investigation of the lynching incident here on Sunday.
