Pakistan wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider who went missing from the team’s hotel in Dubai after allegedly receiving death threats has flown to England.
His arrival at Heathrow Airport has now been confirmed.
Haider first disappeared after posting a message on his Facebook page.Left as a status update, it read: “leaving pakistan cricket because get bad msg fr 1 man fr lose the match in last game.”
A TV reporter for Geo, a Pakistani news channel, said he had received a similar text message from Haider earlier on Monday.
Pakistan television channels reported that the 24 year old wicket keeper had received death threats.
The disappearance was confirmed by team manager Intikhab Alam, who said the player had not arrived at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for a one day match
against South Africa.
Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman Nadeem Sarwar said “Haider had taken away his passport from the team management on Sunday night.
“We have reported the matter of him missing to the Dubai Police and to the ICC’s Anti corruption Unit.”
In Pakistan, Senior Superintendent of Police Rana Faisal said security was being provided for the player’s family in Lahore. Mr Faisal told reporters “We have deployed a dozen police officials at Haider‘s residence, so that they can be guarded properly, if there is any threat”.
The player had hit the winning runs for Pakistan in the fourth One Day International, which levelled the series against South Africa 2-2, ahead of the deciding match.
