Angelina and Johnny Depp's The Tourist bombs at box office

They are two of Hollywood's hottest stars but the presence of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp could not salvage The Tourist, which has now bombed at the box-office after getting panned by critics.

Despite the pulling power of Jolie and Depp, the romantic thriller set in Venice, Italy, failed to attract moviegoers and is set to take less than USD 20 million on its opening weekend.

The film was the first time the two Hollywood stars got together on screen, but despite the hype, movie experts predict that it will be pulled from US theatres in a matter of weeks with Hollywood studio Sony hoping it performs better overseas, according to Hollywood reporter.

The pairing of Depp and Jolie, failed to work with critics panning their on-screen chemistry.

"Star power can cover up a multitude of shortcomings in a film. Turns out stupidity isn't one of them. Nor is a lack of chemistry when those stars are tossed into the same orbit," reads New York Times review.

"Throw in the feeling that they aren't really trying, but instead showed up for the mondo payday and the first-rate locations and you have well, you have The Tourist," reads the review.

The film made on a budget of USD 100 million was beaten into second place by The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader The third film made out of CS Lewis fantasy series was expected to take just over USD 30 million to claim the top spot.

In comparison to the dismal collections, this season's big hit, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows had taken USD 125 million on its opening weekend.
