Preparations for the Holy month
The start of Ramazan, the ninth and holiest month in the Muslim calendar, is traditionally determined by the sighting of a new moon. Muslims scan the sky at dusk in the beginning of the lunar calendar's ninth month in search of the new moon to proclaim the start of Ramazan, Islam's holiest month during which observant believers fast from dawn to dusk. Muslimscelebrate the end of Ramazan with the Eid al-Fitr festival.
