Pak trio charged with 'spot-fixing'
LONDON: British prosecutors on Friday charged three Pakistan cricketers with taking bribes to fix incidents in an international match in England last year.
Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir are accused of fixing certain incidents, such as the bowling of no-balls at pre-agreed times, during the fourth test at Lord's last August.
Britain's Crown Prosecution Service said the trio, along with a fourth man, sporting agent Mazhar Majeed, had been charged with conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments and with conspiracy to cheat.
"These charges relate to allegations that Mr Majeed accepted money from a third party to arrange for the players to bowl

Why do voters elect the same politicians?
Switch on any TV channel, open up a newspaper or log on to a social network and you will see our parliamentarians and their electorate continuously drawing ire of the urban-educated elite.
Participants engaging in intellectual discourse on talk shows raise questioning eyebrows over the wisdom possessed by the electorate, and criticise voters’ decision of re-electing the same allegedly tainted politician. This made me wonder; why do voters elect the same politicians every time?
After some introspection, I came to the conclusion that the bone of contention is the socio-economic imbalance prevailing in our society. This is a battle between the ‘haves and have-nots’, who will perpetually be at loggerheads with each other till this dichotomy in their status persists.
The ‘haves’

World Cup 2011: Make way for team green!
Pakistan have just completed their first series win after exactly 809 days and undoubtedly, it could not have come at a better time. As Pakistan cricket lovers we expect our team to bounce back at the most crucial times, and this has been no different.
Many of the team’s problems have been solved in the four matches we played in this series. Mohammad Hafeez and the young Ahmed Shehzad have come together to give us a stable opening pair that we were not accustomed to. Although, they may not have scored well together, they have both shown the patience and explosiveness to score centuries at the top.
Misbahul Haq, who is in the best form of his life, has shown us that he may have learnt how to actually finish games (refer to T20 World Cup 2007), but I would still not trust him to finish the upcoming World Cup final if we play India.
