iPhone 4 hits UAE and Qatar, but without FaceTime installed
The iPhone 4 launched this weekend in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, but buyers wound up with a surprise -- their handset's front-facing cameras couldn't do FaceTime. The National reports that the video chat feature is missing from phones sold at UAE carriers Etisalat and du, as well as those from Vodafone Qatar. Carriers are blaming Apple for the missing feature, and spokespersons from both Etisalat and Vodafone say they're speaking to Cupertino about reinstating FaceTime post-haste, which was reportedly advertised on Middle Eastern versions of Apple's iPhone website until around September 20th, when all references to FaceTime were

Microsoft prepping Windows Phone 7 for an October 21st launch?
We'd heard October. We heard Europe in October. We heard next month. Now, Neowin cites anonymous sources that Windows Phone 7 will arrive in the UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy on precisely October 21st, and is preparing a good deal of marketing fanfare to support a fancy October 11th unveiling in New York City. We can't say whether the rumor's correct, but it's certainly picking up steam, as these particular numbers were independently reported by Pocket-lint and the Spanish publication El Economista earlier this month as well. Now all we need is an

Commonwealth Games in New Delhi: Indian boxer floored by bed collapse
Indian boxer Akhil Kumar has been floored by a collapsing bed at the athletes’ village in the latest blow to the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. The Games, which open on October 3, have been rocked by dirty and unfinished accommodation, an outbreak of dengue fever, and the collapse of a footbridge under construction near the main stadium that injured 27 workers. Now Kumar, a diminutive bantamweight who fights in the 56kg category, has ended up on the canvas in his room in the much-criticised village. “I sat down on my bed to rest but suddenly it gave way,” he told reporters after the incident on Saturday. “After that I noticed that part of it has no plywood. “It was very disappointing after enduring a long journey. The athletes are at least entitled to a decent place to rest.” Kumar, 29, is one of India’s best gold medal hopes after winning the 54kg category at the Melbourne Games in 2006. The showpiece athletes’ village, set on the banks of the main river in the Indian capital, has come under intense criticism with many apartments not yet completed and poor standards of cleanliness. Some nations delayed the departure of their athletes or checked into |

Commonwealth Games in New Delhi: Snake found in athlete’s room
There seems to be no end to the problems confronting the organisers of the Commonwealth Games with the South African envoy here claiming that a snake was found in an athlete’s room in the Village. A snake was found in a room in the residential tower, earmarked for the South African athletes, who have not arrived yet, High Commissioner Harris Mbulelo Mejeke told reporters. “We can’t go and stay till things are fixed up. We have very grave concerns. we can’t ask our teams to stay there. Yesterday we found a snake but I don’t know whether it was an Indian snake. But it was there in one of our rooms,” Mejeke said before entering the Village. “That was a threat to the lives of our athletes. Very disappointing. Basically, the basement was full of water and the staircase was also damp,” he said. On being asked if he brought the matter to the notice of the organizers, he said, “We had someone with us. They have promised us, everything will be all right. I will go and |
