Boy, did Dell show just off the craziest device on stage at Intel's IDF 2010 day two keynote. What started as a tablet device converted to a netbook just by opening to the keyboard and literally swiveling the screen from within the frame. This hybrid's got a 10-inch screen, houses a dual-core Atom N550 and runs Windows 7 Premium. And if it looks at all familiar, that's because we saw something eerily similar in a leak from April (hello, Sparta). No price given and Dell isn't providing us any more

Riaz interviewed by police in ‘spot-fixing’ probe
Fast bowler Wahab Riaz has become the latest Pakistan cricketer to be questioned by police as a result of the ‘spot-fixing’ row engulfing the team’s tour of England. A brief statement issued by Scotland Yard here on Tuesday said: “We can confirm that today, Tuesday, September 14, one further Pakistani cricketer was interviewed by appointment under caution.” Although the statement did not name Riaz, his interview with detectives was trailed last week by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt, who said: “We have arranged for his interview as we will continue to cooperate and we want to get to the bottom of the matter.” Pakistan’s tour has been overshadowed by newspaper allegations of a betting scam that saw no-balls deliberately bowled in the fourth Test against England at Lord’s last month. The claims, published in the News of the World, led to the suspension of Pakistan Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif by the |

Gold hits record high above $1,269 per ounce
The price of gold, a safe-haven investment in times of economic uncertainty, struck an all-time high above 1,269 dollars an ounce on Tuesday. Gold hit 1,269.45 dollars on the London Bullion Market at 1410 GMT, beating the previous record of 1,265.30 dollars an ounce struck on June 21. “Renewed sovereign debt concerns” have driven up gold, said Robin Bhar, senior metals analyst at Credit Agricole bank. Fears of a resurgent eurozone debt crisis are likely to stunt European economic growth prospects this year, the EU warned on Monday. “The global recovery is still expected to be uneven and is surrounded by major uncertainties,” the European Commission said in its autumn forecast, citing “the resurfacing of |

French parliament adopts ban on full-face veil
The French parliament passed a law Tuesday prohibiting wearing a full-face veil in public, meaning a ban will come into force early next year if it is not overturned by senior judges. The Senate passed the bill by 246 votes to one and, having already cleared the lower house in July, the bill will now be reviewed by the Constitutional Council, which has a month to confirm its legality. Once in force, the law provides for a six-month period of “education” to explain to women already wearing a face veil that they face arrest and a fine if they continue to do so in any public space. A woman who chooses to defy the ban will receive a fine of |

The Biggest Unpaid Strip Club Bills Ever
Whether it's the $14 beers or the way the bartender has to duck whenever a dancer spins around the pole, there's just something about strip clubs.
Of course, some people enjoy them more than others. Take, for instance, James Clooney, who ended up with a nearly $47,000 tab after a fun night out at the Penthouse Executive Club in Manhattan.
Clooney charged steaks, liquor and lap dances to rack up a bill big enough to buy a 3-bedroom house in Kansas. According to the club, he's since made some small payments, but nothing big enough to put a dent in his debt. So, they've filed a lawsuit against him, seeking $46,698.18.
This got us thinking: surely James Clooney isn't the first guy who's gotten a little heavy-handed with the free champagne and ended up slinking away from a massive strip club tab. Turns out, we were right. A lot of people want to party like rock stars, then wake up the

The 10 Most Stylish Fictional Gangsters of All Time
Let’s face it—fictional gangsters are more fun than real ones. Fictional gangsters get into prolonged shootouts that destroy half of city hall. Fictional gangsters have dinner with the chief of police and then sleep with his wife. Fictional gangsters never run out of bullets, whores, exotic tiger-pets or favors to grant on the day of their daughter’s wedding.
These factors mean made-up gangland is not only way more fun than

Germany has 24-hour milk station
BERLIN: A German dairy farmer has opened a 24-hour milk dispensing station on his farm and is doing booming business, according to a UK-based news agency. The station, called “Milchtankstelle,” is located near Cologne, one of the largest cities in Germany. Customers obtain their milk from a steel vending machine, using either bottles brought from home or purchased on the spot. "I only had a few customers before I opened the station because they had to come at set milking times, which was a problem. Now they can buy my milk whenever they want," the farmer, Bruno Stauf, said, according to the news agency. The milk costs 70 cents per liter, putting the price higher than at supermarkets. Stauf, however, is confident about the quality of his milk, "There's a lot more protein and fat in it because it is not treated like the milk you get in normal supermarkets,” he said in a report. Stauf’s milk station cost him 12,000 euros in total, but |

New moms don’t get good sleep
It may come as news to new parents but a U.S. study has found that mothers do get enough sleep in their babies’ first few months — it’s just not good quality. Researchers from West Virginia University in Morgantown followed a group of new mothers and found, on average, the women got just over 7 hours of sleep a night during their babies’ first four months. That amount is generally what is recommended for adults, and, based on past studies, more than the average American gets. But the study found that sleep is also frequently disrupted with the women typically being awake for a total of two hours a night which was worrying as sleep problems and exhaustion may contribute to postpartum depression and impact work performance. Researcher Dr. Hawley E. Montgomery-Downs, an assistant professor of psychology, said the study challenges a central assumption about new mothers’ typical sleep patterns. She said that the general assumption had been that most new mothers are not getting enough hours of sleep so the advice on how to combat daytime fatigue has focused on countering sleep deprivation, such as nap when your baby naps. The current results, reported in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology , suggest that new mothers’ highly fragmented sleep is the cause of daytime fatigue. That sleep pattern, Montgomery-Downs said, is similar to |

The former president of International Cricket Council Ehsan Mani has urged the organisation to take concrete and pragmatic steps to curb corruption in the game. In an exclusive interview on the spot-fixing crisis in the October issue of The Wisden Cricketer magazine, Mani said: When players first come into the international game, they are given a one-to-one induction by the ICC on how they might be compromised. But the Pakistan board is clearly not getting the message through to its players. The onus is on the PCB to explain how players under its control could behave like this. Mani, who led the world governing body as President from 2003-06 and was also Pakistan’s representative to the ICC for 7 years, said he was very sad, disappointed and hurt as the |
