Dead mouse found in a Curry Sauce
When Cate Barrett bought a jar of tikka masala sauce from her local Asda store, she was expecting it to contain a bit of a kick. But what she wasn't expecting to find was the dead mouse which had somehow ended up in the jar - along with the rest of her favorite sauce. The nursery worker had begun making dinner for herself and her boyfriend, Nigel, when she poured the sauce into the pan, and noticed it was a little lumpy. As she began stirring the sauce through, she noticed what looked like whiskers and a tail - and immediately knew it was a dead rodent. The couple took the dead animal and the jar of Asda Extra Special sauce back to the shop where a manager apologized and said it would be sent for examination.

Can Apple crack China with the iPhone 4?
Apple will release its latest smartphone in the world's largest mobile market Saturday, just a week after officially launching its iPad tablet computer here.
The company is also opening two new stores in Beijing and Shanghai this weekend, which will double its retail presence in the country. Apple already has one store in each city and said it plans on opening 25 more stores in China by the end of next year.
Similar to the high profile launch of the iPhone 3 in China last October, analysts say they expect much fanfare around the release of the iPhone 4, which will be available in Apple stores as well as at China Unicom outlets for customers with a two year contract, the company said in a press release.
The 16-gigabyte version of the phone will cost 4,999 yuan ($745) while the 32-gigabyte will sell for 5,999 yuan ($895), the company said.
When the iPad was launched in China last Friday, hundreds lined up outside Apple's flagship store in Beijing for hours (one Apple fan reportedly waited for more than two days) to be among the first to buy the coveted device -- a scene that likely will repeat itself when the

Mozilla's Seabird phone concept teaches us how to dream
Look up, peasant, from your soot-stained hands. Drop that shovel into the furrowed ground and gaze upon the magic* that Mozilla has wrought. Concept designer Billy May, working through Mozilla's "Open Web Concept Phone" project, has gathered community feedback and followed up on some rather mundane visions for the mobile future with this little beauty, the Mozilla Seabird. The completely fictional device has a disturbing initial resemblance to a BlackBerry Storm, but as the video unfolds the functionality is really what sells this thing. The big innovation is the use of dual pico projectors on the side of the handset, which can provide different functionality based on the phone's orientation: flat on a table they pump out the two halves of a QWERTY keyboard, up on a dock they offer the

Afridi hints at Test return after England tour
Pakistan one-day captain Shahid Afridi hinted at a return to Test cricket on Friday as the team returned from what he called the “most difficult” tour of his career in England. The tour ended Wednesday with England taking the one-day series 3-2 after an Afridi-led Pakistani fightback had levelled the series. Pakistan also lost the Test series, 3-1. “The best part of the whole tour was that the players showed unity even in difficult times and gave a good fight in the one-day series against England,” Afridi told a scrum of reporters outside Karachi airport. “I will think about it and if the team needs it, I may consider playing the Test series against South Africa,” added the explosive all-rounder. After a four-year break, Afridi came out of Test retirement this summer only to quit after one game when Australia pummelled Pakistan by |

Facebook Apologizes for Worst Outage in 4 Years
Many Facebook users were unable to access the social networking site for up to two and a half hours on Thursday, the worst outage the website has had in over four years, Facebook said in a posting. The problems were traced back to a change made by Facebook in one of its systems. The change was made to a piece of data that was called upon whenever an error-checking routine found invalid data in Facebook’s system. The piece of data was itself interpreted as invalid, which caused the system to try and replace it with the same piece of data and so a feedback loop began. The loop resulted in hundreds of thousands of queries per second being sent to Facebook’s database cluster, overwhelming the system. The result for users was a “DNS error” message and no access to the site. “The way to stop the feedback cycle was quite painful – we had to stop all traffic to this database cluster, which meant turning off the site,” wrote Robert Johnson, director of |

Pakistan return home after disastrous tour
One-day captain Shahid Afridi on Friday called Pakistan’s scandal-marred tour of England the “most difficult” of his career as the team staged a low-key return home after four gruelling months away. Coach Waqar Younis also conceded that it had been a punishing tour “on and off the field” after corruption investigations engulfed the side, triggering a barrage of condemnation from the press and public. Afridi flew in to Karachi with three team-mates while the rest of the squad arrived in Lahore in the early hours, with a phalanx of gun-toting policemen escorting the players out of both airports. “It was tough because of the controversies and became very difficult to cope with, because every time we went out of the hotel people passed remarks against us,” Afridi told a scrum of reporters in Karachi. “Because of the controversies on the tour, it was the most difficult tour of my 14-year career,” the explosive all-rounder added. The tour ended on Wednesday with Pakistan losing the |

What happen to facebook last night read now
Early today Facebook was down or unreachable for many of you for approximately 2.5 hours. This is the worst outage we’ve had in over four years, and we wanted to first of all apologize for it. We also wanted to provide much more technical detail on what happened and share one big lesson learned.
The key flaw that caused this outage to be so severe was an unfortunate handling of an error condition. An automated system for verifying configuration values ended up causing much more damage than it fixed.
The intent of the automated system is to check for configuration values that are invalid in the cache and replace them with updated values from the persistent store. This works well for a transient problem with the cache, but it doesn’t work when the persistent store is invalid.
Today we made a change to the persistent copy of a configuration value that was interpreted as invalid. This meant that every single client saw the

Facebook Down Again
After issues at a third-party networking provider took down Facebook for some users on Wednesday, the social networking site is once again struggling to stay online.
The company reports latency issues with its API on its developer site, but the problem is clearly broader than that with thousands of users tweeting about the outage.
On our end when we attempt to access Facebook, we’re seeing the message: “Internal Server Error – The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.” Facebook “Like” buttons also appear to be down on our site and across the Web.
We’ve reached out to the company and will update when we know more.
Update (3:45 p.m. ET): Facebook tells us that, “We’re currently experiencing some site issues causing Facebook to be slow or unavailable for some users. We are working to
