Kim Kardashian says no to dating Hollywood stars

Socialite Kim Kardashian has no dreams of dating a popular Hollywood star. She says she would rather fall in love with a "normal, Armenian boy".

No special treatment for Hilton, say police

A Las Vegas police spokesman has insisted socialite Paris Hilton received "no special treatment" after she was arrested on cocaine possession charges Friday night.

The spoilt rich kid and her boyfriend Cy Waits were driving along Sin City's famous strip when their car was pulled over by cops. While Waits was arrested on suspicion of Driving Under Influence (DUI), Hilton was booked for alleged felony drug possession after a police officer found a suspicious-looking white powder in her purse.

Hilton was checked into the Clark County Detention Center, but was freed in less than three hours prompting rumours her celebrity status secured her a quick release, Suntimes.com reports.

Antoine Dodson: The new, accidental American idol

Internet celebrities can be annoying, says Kathleen Parker in The Washington Post, but Dodson's hit video — a remix of his response to an attempted rape — touches a different chord

"We have a new American idol,"says Kathleen Parker in The Washington Post. And his name is Antoine Dodson. After Dodson thwarted a very "unfunny incident" — an attempted sexual assault on his 22-year-old sister in their Huntsville, AL, housing project — he rocketed to internet superstardom when his furious, fed-up, "hilarious" interview with a local news station went viral. His fame rose to greater heights when an "auto-tuned" remix version  became one of the summer's hit songs (see below). From the song's proceeds, Dodson has earned enough to move his family out of the projects. But unlike other instant, not especially skilled celebrities, writes Parker, "we don't begrudge [Dodson] his moment of fame because, among other things, he made us laugh. He also expressed a rage that most feel but don't express." An excerpt:
Sometimes we don't know quite who we are or what we're made of until forced into action by circumstances. Tsunamis and hurricanes reveal heroes and expose monsters. A would-be rapist and a television crew bring out the beautiful and, yes, hilarious fury of a brother in the throes of his own Howard Beale moment.

Despite the seriousness of the event, it is impossible to keep a straight face as Dodson rails against his sister's assailant, red bandana and passions ablaze. An excerpt will have to do:
"Obviously, we have a rapist in Lincoln Park. He's climbing in your windows, he's snatching your people up, trying to rape them; so y'all need to hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband, because they're raping everybody out here. . . . "
Suffice to say, it's all in the delivery.

New Orleans: The miracle is it's 'still here'

Hurricane Katrina revealed our fragility, says Jarvis DeBerry in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, but the next five years revealed our capacity to survive

A rainbow stretches over New Orleans during the 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2010

The fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is triggering familiar nightmares, says Jarvis DeBerry in the New OrleansTimes-Picayune. The increased news coverage, one therapist says, is reminding people "what happened when their whole world was ripped away" by a relentless barrage of 100-plus-mile-per-hour winds and an unstoppable wall of water. We were powerless to stop it. And we're powerless still, writes DeBerry. The next huge hurricane could come any time, and we know — from experience — that if it hits head on, it could rip through "what's left of our wetlands," then "drown the city and rip it to shreds." We can protect New Orleans from the storm surge, making it "much less vulnerable." But until the city has impenetrable defenses — which would require a national commitment that has yet to materialize — this anniversary will be a

Gmail phone: Revolutionary?

Will the ability to make free phone calls using Google's (already addictive) email service change the communication industry?

Yet another way Google is becoming indispensable: It now allows users who install voice and video plug-ins to make phone calls directly from their email inbox. The "Calls from Gmail" service allows for free calls to any landline in the United States and Canada, with international calls priced at "extremely low rates" — a direct competitive assault on companies such as Skype, which offers a similar service. With early adopters logging over a million calls on the first day "Gmail phone" was available, will it fundamentally change the way we stay in touch? (See the service in action)
Say hello to the new "home phone": Increasingly, people are ditching their landlines, says Farhad Manjoo in Slate. In 2009, 23 percent of American adults (up from 5 percent in 2003) lived without one. But that doesn't mean that cell phones — "one of the buggiest and most expensive ways to make calls when you're at home" — will take

5 surprising facts about strippers

A new study says strippers earn as much as lawyers — and that's just one interesting recent finding about the profession

Strippers make around $74,000 a year, and many of them have undergraduate degrees.

A new British study into the lives of strippers has come up with some interesting figures, so to speak — concluding, for instance, that about one in four are college graduates. That's just one of several recent research claims about those who take their clothes off for a living. Here's a round-up:
Strippers earn more when they're ovulating
Strippers make an average of $30 per hour more when they are ovulating than when they are menstruating, according to a study by the University of New Mexico. Women on the pill — who generally do not ovulate — made significantly less. Researchers said this was proof men react to female ovulation, a claim that had some critics scoffing. But, then again, maybe "a stripper who feels sexy gives a more tip-worthy lap dance than one who feels uncomfortable during her period," said Sharon Begley at
