Jay spent nearly two hours poised with his camera and took more than 80 shots before striking lucky with this particular bolt of lightning at 8.45pm on 22 September. He

World’s most expensive billion-dollar home

World’s most expensive billion-dollar home MUMBAI: India’s richest man has built what is said to be the world’s first billion-dollar home. Yes, that’s billion with a “B.”

Mukesh Ambani, his wife and three children plan a housewarming party for the 27-story Mumbai pad later this month. In addition to decadent food, attendees can glimpse three helipads, a health club, dance studio, 50-seat movie theater and underground parking lot with enough room for 160 cars, Indian media reported. An American firm oversaw the interior design.

The house didn’t cost $1 billion to build, of course, but construction did cost millions of dollars. Given Mumbai’s astronomical property prices, the finished product is

Robotic curtain tries to guard your privacy, save on fabric (video)

Of all the things that could potentially be roboticized, we can't say a curtain would be high on our list -- but then again, we're not hardware hacker Niklas Roy. In an attempt to create a "little piece of privacy," Niklas developed this curtain that can watch passers-by outside (with the aid of a surveillance camera) and automatically follow them along the window to block their view inside. Of course, as Niklas notes, a sentient curtain does also have the unfortunate side effect of actually attracting the very passers-by it's trying to guard against -- such are the perils of innovation. Head on past the break to

Amazing Music Beats Made with Bees

I wanted to see how far I could take the recordings of bees into the realm of music. The bee produces about 200-230 wing flaps pr. second, which is enough to generate a nice, rich sounding buzz. I recorded a bunch of bee sounds and manipulated them through a variety of tools (including timefreezers, delays, filters, glitch modules etc). I then decided to add some more human elements to it (vocals, guitars, grooves etc) and wrapped it up by adding full symphony orchestra and choirs on it during the end. [video inside]

Focus Design's SBU self-balancing unicycle hits 2.0: faster, stronger, sleeker, zanier

And here you were thinking Focus Design had thrown in the towel after producing just one self-balancing unicycle. Silly you, huh? Nearly two years to the day after the aforesaid company cranked out the goofiest transporter since the Segway, along comes the SBU v2.0 to rekindle our hope in humanity. According to the outfit, this newfangled edition is sleeker, safer and more powerful, and better still, it should be "much easier to learn." Focus is also tossing out a somewhat ambiguous guarantee, noting that it'll most certainly be "an instant crowd-pleaser." The newly designed motor packs 1,000 watts of power (compared to 350 watts on v1.0), and the more powerful battery will keep you cruising on

Skype 5.0 for Windows busts out of beta, integrates your Facebook friends

Nope, it's not a Facebook "phone," but it's probably the closest you're gonna get to one right now. Skype has just unleashed the no-longer-in-beta version of its 5.0 Windows software, and not only has it drastically tided up the interface, but just like the rumor said, it's taken advantage of Facebook Connect in a big way. The new version, which will apparently be available for public download within minutes of this post hitting the internet, still has a familiar look and feel, but the most noticeable changes are the addition of photos to the contacts list and the new Facebook tab. Nokia N8 review

The first time Nokia's N8-00 popped up on our radar was way back in early February of this year. On that chilly, misty morning, we learned of a mythical being capable of shooting 12 megapixel stills, recording 720p video, outputting via HDMI, and -- most importantly -- ushering in the promised Symbian^3 touch revolution. It's been a long road of leaks, teasers, hands-ons, and previews since then, but at long last, the legend of the N8 has become a purchasable commodity. All the early specs have survived, including the 3.5-inch AMOLED display, but the key question today, as it was at the beginning, relates to that all-new software within: does Symbian^3 succeed in elevating Nokia's touchscreen experience or does it drag down an otherwise stellar combination of high-end parts? For that verdict and

Viewsonic rolls out 24-inch V3D241wm-LED monitor with 3D glasses

We've yet to see the full wrath of Viewsonic's ambitious 3D plans, but the company has at least now rolled out one new device: the 24-inch V3D241wm-LED 3D monitor. That naturally comes complete with a pair of (active) 3D glasses, and Viewsonic insists that the monitor's 120Hz frame rate and 2ms response time make it ideal for both gaming and movies. You'll also get a pair of built-in two watt speakers, 300 nits of brightness, a supposed 20,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and the

HP Envy 17 review

When it comes to selecting our favorite mainstream Windows laptops these days the HP Envy 14 is pretty much at the tippy top of the list. (Hey, we don't just give anything away to our college-bound readers, you know?) But while the 14-inch version of the magnesium-alloy laptop may have impressed us with its new backlit keyboard and internal organs, we've still been aching to know how the bigger and badder Core i7-powered Envy 17 stands up. With a 1920 x 1080-resolution 17.3-inch display, 1GB of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics, a USB 3.0 port and Blu-ray drive, can you really blame us? There's no doubt that the Envy 17 is one epic desktop replacement, but

Nation-E's electric Hummer H1 can power itself and others

It may not be the first electric Hummer out on the roads -- we hear a certain Terminator-turned-Governor has one -- but Nation-E's so-called AngelH1 is something of a first nonetheless. Not only is it an all-electric Hummer H1, but it packs a 60 kW battery that lets it double as a mobile charging station for other vehicles, construction sites, or even buildings in an emergency situation. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but it looks like Nation-E is taking a bit of a cue from DieHard to demonstrate its battery technology -- the company will be using one of its 40kW batteries to

Self-driving taxi picks you up at the press of a button (video)

Who needs safety drivers? Not Germany's Freie University, that's for sure, which has just demonstrated a self-driving taxi to rival Google's efforts without a soul at the wheel. This laser, radar and sensor-equipped VW Passat, dubbed "Made in Germany," has a companion iPad app from Appirion to do all the hard work, too -- you just start the program, punch in coordinates and

Robots learning our pain threshold by punching humans and seeing if they cry

The first rule of robotics is you do not talk about robotics that a robot should not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. But how does a robot know when its acts or omissions are causing nearby fleshies discomfort? The obvious way is to scan for the same signals of distress that we humans do -- facial, physical, and aural -- but another, more fun, way is to just hit people over and over again and ask them how much each blow hurt. That's what

In God I Trust: Katrina

In God I Trust: KatrinaKatrina Kaif, the top Bollywood star is well known for her stark belief in visiting some of the holy places in India. Whenever the actress has had the time, and whenever she's had to seek blessings from the Almighty, she's never hesitated to visit the nearest place of worship, whether it is a Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian place of worship.

Even though she's spent a major part of her growing up years in England, she's never shied away from embracing and paying her respects to the various religious sects of India.

Thus, earlier reports about her visit to the Golden temple, the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, or even a visit to Shirdi, where the religious pious Sai Baba temple is considered to be extremely sacred by followers, had already made Kat quite a star in the eyes of most religious heads.

Now, there are

Why is Vidya Balan skipping lunches?

Why is Vidya Balan skipping lunches?Bollywood actress Vidya Balan stunned everyone on the sets of director Santosh Sivan's Malayalam venture "Urumi", when she flawlessly delivered her Malayalam dialogues just minutes after learning them.

After performing a special song for "Urumi", Vidya was offered an impromptu special guest appearance in the film where she was asked to learn a five-page Malayalam dialogue just minutes before the scene.

"Vidya's guest appearance was a spot decision and she was handed the dialogues just over 10 minutes before the scene - she skipped lunch and sat to learn the lines and stunned everyone with her flawless dialogue delivery. She was so good in fact that she moved everyone on the sets, " said a source.

The filmmaker now wants to work on a full-fledged film with Vidya Balan. "Santoshji has often said that Vidya's eyes can convey a thousand words - and after having her as guest in 'Urumi' he is kicked about doing his next film with her, " the

Are super heroes Shah Rukh and Hrithik insecure?

Are super heroes Shah Rukh and Hrithik insecure? The world of super heroes is sure a super sensitive one. G.ONE, aka SRK, in 'RA.ONE', and Hrithik in 'Krissh ' and the next planned sequel 'Krissh 2', are the two most sensitive of the lot, at the moment at least!

This is to say that the B Town super heroes Shahrukh Khan in his forth coming 'RA.ONE', and Hrithik Roshan in 'Krissh, and the sequel 'Krissh 2', are reportedly going through a doubtful phase in their respective projects, due to the thundering success of the just released Rajnikant starer 'Robot', or 'Endhiran'.

As earlier reports suggested that Shahrukh Khan had had emergency meetings in his house to try and change the format of his science fiction flick 'RA.ONE', and then deciding to make it a film totally based on the gaming factor, which is again a totally new concept in the world of B Town cinema, are all decisions taken to match the amazing standards set by 'Robot'.

Now, reports are zooming in from all quarters that producer, director Rakesh Roshan, who had projected Hrithik Roshan as a super desi hero in 'Krissh, 'was planning to go for the sequel Krissh 2', in a big way, but even his

Bebo to chavanni chhaap Dabbo: It`s Tee time KareenaKareena Kapoor prefers wearing interesting dialogues on t-shirts to all events of her upcoming film

No designer gowns and dresses for Kareena Kapoor. The actress has been wearing her Golmaal 3 T-shirts with interesting dialogues from the film written on them for all the promotional events of the film.

Last week she was seen on Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Star Plus's Chote Ustad wearing the tees from G3.

In Golmaal 3 she plays a character called Dabboo, who according to Bebo is, "a bit of a tomboy and chavanni chhaap.

When we sat down to discuss the look of the character we felt that she should wear interesting tees. The idea to have the dialogues on the tees was Manish's (Malhotra)."

The T-shirts with messages were created specially for her character, "Dabboo is a total film buff and watches all Hindi films. She

Break Ke Baad director Danish Aslam got married to actress Shruti Seth in Goa over the weekend. It was three days of fun and revelry, with only a few close friends being invited. Kunal Kohli conducted the proceedings.

Ash, Hrithik to do an intense love scene for Guzaarish

Ash, Hrithik to do an intense love scene for GuzaarishAishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan are soon going to be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Guzaarish', where the two are linked up under very unusual circumstances, as Hrithik plays a magician, who gets infected with a disease and becomes paraplegic, with some parts of his lower half stop functioning, due to lack of co-ordination with the brain.

Aishwarya, who plays a nurse, is made to take charge of Hrithik's character, and as Ash's character slowly gets emotionally attached to the patient, played by Hrithik, reports are that the film tends to get very emotionally charged up!

The director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has worked with Ash in his great projects like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Devdas, has managed to convince Ash to do something quite different in this film- Amazingly, he has managed to make her do a highly romance smitten scene with Hrithik in this flick, which is something unique as far as Ash is concerned!

Aishwarya has never been seen doing such a romantic scene on screen and this is certainly will be one of the highest USP'S of
