Android 3.0 due to start hitting tablets in December ahead of January launch

Android 3.0 due to start hitting tablets in December, launch in JanuaryA holiday tradition? Making things out of gingerbread, and Google is doing its part to keep that practice alive according to a report stating Android 3.0 is set to hit some tablets this December. Those will just be early samples destined only to light up the eyes of engineers who've been very, very good this year, but the rest of us naughty boys and girls will get to see those slates when they launch to the public in January. We hear there's a little electronics show happening that time of year, and supposedly HTC, Samsung, and Motorola will be showing their Gingerbread tablets there, amongst others (but not Lenovo, apparently). We can't wait to get a taste.

Update: Thanks to James for pointing out that it's still unclear whether 3.0 is going to be Gingerbread or, indeed, the truly tablet-minded Honeycomb release we're really waiting for. This report states specifically that 3.0 is hitting tablets in December, with 4.0 later in 2011. Is that Gingerbread and

Apple introduces 11.6-inch MacBook Air, available today for $999

Hoo boy, our tipster was spot on with this one, Apple's adding an 11.6-inch sibling to its newly redesigned 13.3-inch MacBook Air. It'll have a dual-core 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (upgradeable to 1.6GHz), 1366 x 768 resolution, and a $999 starting price for the 64GB SSD model, with the 128GB version setting you back $1,199. It carries over the aluminum unibody construction from the 13-incher, along with the same 2GB or 4GB DDR3 RAM options and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, but

MacBook Air (11.6-inch) first hands-on! (update: video!)

Look, all we can tell you is that is one of the tiniest, thinnest, most lust-worthy laptops we've ever seen. We're taking a deeper look at the device right now, but for the time being, enjoy the

MacBook Air (13-inch) first hands-on! (update: video!)

We just spent some quality time with the new 13-inch MacBook Air, and it certainly seems like a worthy upgrade. It definitely feels significantly bigger than the 11-incher, and we noticed the function keys are standard MacBook size, as opposed to the shrunken ones on the 11. We also noticed that it was seriously instant-on -- we popped the lid open and closed several times while taking photos, and it was ready to go the second we opened it. We'll have more impressions and pics in a

New MacBook Airs come with Software Reinstall USB drive

What's a MacBook Air to do in the case of a software emergency without an internal or external optical drive? Well, Apple's thankfully considered that situation, and has included a Software Reinstall USB drive with both the 11-inch and 13-inch models. As a bonus, it also makes an attractive addition to a keychain or necklace.

Update: We took some shots of the drive. It's a really small USB drive! Storage comes up at around 8GB, of which 7.5GB is used for the OS X and

FaceTime for Mac hands-on: it works, it's rough

We've been anticipating FaceTime for the Mac ever since we spied the feature on the iPhone, and now Apple is making our dreams a reality with a handy new beta Mac OS X application dubbed "FaceTime." It's not an iChat replacement; far from it, in fact. Instead, the standalone, lightweight app dedicates itself to FaceTime calls only, with no sign of your handy AIM or Gtalk buddy list to help you along. It pulls its list of contacts strictly from the Mac Address Book, with no editing available in app, and you'd better hope you have a good handle on that list of contacts (our Gmail-tainted version could certainly use some work). You have to click on a person's name and then guess which email or phone number they have associated with a FaceTime account -- none of the helpful icons from the

Samsung Omnia 7 review

We knew Samsung's been in the Windows Phone 7 game pretty much since day one, but the Korean giant's managed to keep its Europe-bound Omnia 7 under tight wraps until mid-summer this year. Two months onwards, we find ourselves cradling this macho-looking device, and giggly flicking through the various tiles in its newborn OS. Just to freshen up your memory, we're looking at a 4-inch Super AMOLED-donning slate, garnished with a dash of Tyrian purple aluminum on the back, and capped with

Windows Phone 7 review

Have you been looking for the definitive review of Windows Phone 7? Well look no further. Microsoft's next (and perhaps final) opportunity to break back into the smartphone race has officially begun, and Engadget has been cranking on a variety of launch devices across several continents to see if the platform holds water.

Back in July we took a deep dive on Windows Phone 7 using a developer device that Microsoft handed out to journalists, and now we're back for the full review. What we realized going into this process was that really very little had changed between the summertime preview and the new OS' fall launch. Even though there have been tweaks and fixes in Microsoft's mobile experience, there hasn't been any addition so large that we felt the software required a completely fresh look. Instead, what we needed to do was go back to the observations made during our initial experience with the OS, compare it to the

HTC Surround review

Of all the Windows Phone 7 launch devices, AT&T's HTC Surround is likely the most curious. It's a landscape slider built on the same basic internals as the rest of its platform siblings, but there's no keyboard under that screen -- the quarter-inch slide reveals an aluminum speaker bar and integrated kickstand, which combine to create a tiny little stereo system of sorts. Mix in Windows Phone 7's heavy Zune integration, add in a dash of Dolby Mobile and SRS Wow "virtual surround" audio processing, and

I don`t want to be another Rakhi Sawant: SakshiSakshi Pradhan, who was considered to be one of the strongest contestants in 'Bigg Boss 4', has been eliminated from the reality show on Colors and she is busy giving lots of interviews these days. When the young girl was asked by the media whether she is afraid of being called the next Rakhi Sawant, Sakshi said that she is not like Rakhi. She added that Rakhi might be a great person but she is happy to be known as Sakshi as she is a docile and honest girl with great faith on 'Karma'.

Tez is a copy of Hollywood film The Bullet Train

Tez is a copy of Hollywood film The Bullet TrainThe plot of the latest Ajay-Priyan flick is a copy of Speed, a rip-off of The Bullet Train

Slow down and you die. Now where have we heard that plotline before? At least three films that involve rapid transit systems have something to do with a bomb that will be triggered if the speed falls below a certain level.

While Priyadarshan's next Tez has a plot that reminds one of Keanu Reeves starrer Speed, the American blockbuster itself was a rip-off of a 1975 Japanese flick called Shinkansen Daibakuha (The Bullet Train).

While Shinkansen... had the action take place on a train, Speed suffered the same fate on a bus: there's a bomb on board that will go off if it slows down.

Tez, which is being shot in London, goes the same route as the original film.

A source reveals that the Priyan flick will be an out-and-out actioner, "Ajay Devgn plays a terrorist who puts a speeding London-Paris train in

Anil Kapoor's dilemma: Mission Impossible 4 v/s Power

Anil Kapoor`s dilemma: Mission Impossible 4 v/s PowerWill opt out of Raj Kumar Santoshi's Power so he can play baddie in Mission Impossible 4

Anil Kapoor is playing a "grey character" in the Hollywood production Mission Impossible 4.

But before that, he has the unenviable task of becoming a bad man off-screen and opting out of Raj Kumar Santoshi's Power.

Kapoor was cast as the main villain in Power. Shooting is yet to begin.

It was his first ever out-and-out negative role and he'd begun preparations for his part with gusto.

Then came the offer to play a negative role in MI4 and now AK is no longer excited about playing the baddie in the B-Town flick.

A bit of a stretch

Says a source, "To play negative characters in two films to be shot almost simultaneously appears a bit of a stretch to him.

Ideally, he would've chosen just one of the two projects with

Here's why Mallika's Hisss is not releasing in Hollywood

Here`s why Mallika`s Hisss is not releasing in HollywoodThe film releases in India this week and in the US in January!
PS: Producer says delay is because film needs more promotion in the west
But Mallika Sherawat's yearlong stay in LA was to do just that, wasn't it?

Mallika Sherawat was parked in Los Angeles for over a year, presumably to promote her next film Hisss. But the film, which hits Indian screens this Friday (October 22), is not even releasing in America.

Directed by Jennifer Lynch, Hisss was to have a grand release across US theatres on October 22, along with the desi version but the actress and the producers aren't talking about it.

Vague reasons like "the producers feel that the film needs to be promoted more in Hollywood" and "there are other Hollywood films releasing in the same month and Hisss wouldn't have got a

Karan Johar on why Hrithik & not Abhi for AgneepathBy Subhash K Jha

It’s official. Karan Johar finally admits it is Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra in the Agneepath remake.

Speaking officially for the first time about the casting of the Agneepath remake Karan Johar coolly and cleverly passes on the buck to his newbie director Karan Malhotra for Abhishek Bachchan’s non-presence in the remake…a casting digression that jolted everyone who thought Abhishek was a natural and inevitable inheritor of the Agneepth role.

Says Karan, “When my father (the late Yash Johar)produced Agneepath he left everything to his director Mukul Anand and kept completely away from the project. I’m carrying on the family tradition. The casting for the Agneepath remake was decided by the director Siddharth Malhotra.

He decided on Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. Why Hrithik and not Abhishek? I think Siddharth has his own ideas on how to present the character. I think the protagonist in the new Agneepath would be very

Will people like not-so-sexy Aishwarya and Hrithik?

Will people like not-so-sexy Aishwarya and Hrithik?Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan are such names, which are enough to create an interest among the audience to make a beeline to the theaters, irrespective of what characters, they are enacting in a film.

However, the forth coming flick 'Guzaarish' is one film where both the stars will be seen in a far more matured look and in a different character style.

Now, when it comes to playing the hot and sexy characters, as both of them had been seen in 'Dhoom 2', they certainly were above the average mark.

Even in period drama roles, as was seen in the massive and elaborate 'Jodha Akbar', both had created magic on screen with their amazing portrayal of the characters. The film was amongst the most popular in the Indian cinema category, however, this time, the two are in a totally different genre of cinema.

Going by the promos of the film, both Aishwarya and Hrithik look slightly more matured, and with Hrithik initially playing a magician and then falling prey to a
