Ali Zafar’s ‘Tere Bin Laden’ Does An Average Opening

Three Indian movies – Tere Bin Laden, Udaan and Lamhaa and two English movies – Inception and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice released on the same day i.e 16th July. But even after getting support from the leading faces of the Indian cinema (like Salman Khan, Karan Johar and Sonam Kapoor) and even after getting rave reviews, Tere Bin Laden starring Ali Zafardoes an average opening at Box Office mostly because of Christopher Nolan (of Memento, Prestige & Batman Series fame)’s highly anticipated ‘Inception’ that stole the show, from East to West, from North to South. In fact, the film fetched a fantastic start from its first show onwards, eclipsing the Indian releases completely. Tere Bin Laden wasn’t expected to start with a bang at the International market, primarily because it stared a new face for them and also because Leonardo DiCaprio’s film ‘Inception’ was also releasing on the same day.
According to leading trade analyst of India, Tere Bin Laden started on a 15% to 20% to 25% note in the morning and noon shows, it picked up during the evening shows, since the word of mouth is extremely positive. The several distributors and exhibitors were unanimous that the film should pick up further on the coming days. The film is still being considered as a hit in UAE and India, mainly because it was made on a moderate budget of $2million USD.
On having conversation with a renowned musician, Shahvar Ali Khan, on the situation, he said
An opening of 25% without big star presence & an opposition such as INCEPTION is insane! Trust me, this movie will keep growing with word of mouth
Still after getting an average opening, TBL has managed to recover all its investment within a night of its release.
