KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and the cable operators to restore the telecast of Geo News, Geo News reported Thursday.
A SHC bench headed by the
Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, heard the petition filed by the viewers of Geo News.
The court directed in its order the federal government, the Pemra and cable operators to present their viewpoints before the court on August 18.
The petition filed by Geo News viewers made the Federation, the Pemra and four cable operators as defendants.
The petitioners said no cable operator could halt the service under Clause-28 of the Pemra Ordinance.
The Counsel Behzad Hyder Advocate of the petitioners said the Pemra should suspend and cancel the licenses of cable operators under Clause-30 of the Ordinance for violating the Pemra laws.
The bench headed by SHC Chief Justice will hear the petition today.
It should be mentioned here that earlier, Lahore High Court (LHC) also delivered the decision to lift ban on Geo News telecast; however, the telecast is still closed on the fifth day today. |
