Fastest Growing Cities In The World.
The website Global Post recently published a series of reports on the world's fastest growing megacity, Dhaka, Bangladesh. According to the U.N., Dhaka will go from being the world's ninth largest city to its fifth by 2025, adding more than six million residents in the process. Dhaka's growth points to the challenges facing Earth's megacities, both old and new. Here is the list of the cities the U.N. thinks will be the world's largest in the year 2025.
1. Tokyo - Tokyo will only grow modestly over the next 15 years, from 36.67 million people to 37.09 million, but will remain the world's most populous centre well into the future.
2. Delhi - India's largest city will grow from 22.16 million resident today to 28.57 million by 2025.
3. Mumbai - Another sprawling Indian megacity and centre of the nation's high-tech industry, Mumbai will add nearly six million citizens to its population over the next 15 years, reaching 25.81 million in 2025.
4. Sao Paulo - Brazil's largest city will grow from 20.26 million people today to 21.65 million in 2025.

7. New York - The largest city in the world in 1950, New York has slowly but surely begun its descent out of the top ten. The U.S. megacity will add just over a million residents over the next 15 years to reach 20.64 million in 2025.
8. Calcutta - India's third largest metropolis will add roughly four and a half million citizens in the next decade and a half and will reach 20.11 million in 2025.
9. Shanghai - Despite China's ascent to become the world's second largest economy, it's most populous city remains far down on the list even 15 years in the future. That said, in 2025 China will have five cities in the top 25, more than any other nation. Shanghai is expected to grow from 16.58 million people now to 20.02 in 2025.
10. Karachi - Pakistan's sprawling megacity is expected to grow from 13.12 million inhabitants today to 18.73 million in 2025.
