Lady Gaga triumphs at MTV Europe awards

Lady Gaga remains at the top of the pop world after earning three honours at the MTV Europe awards in Madrid Sunday evening.

MTV viewers in Europe voted the 24-year-old best singer and best pop star, as well as awarding her best song honours for her hit Bad Romance.

The singer walked away with eight trophies at the US version of the MTV Video Music Awards two months ago and caused a furore with her dress made of slices of meat. But this time, Lady Gaga's sartorial choices were not an issue as she did not attend the award ceremony. She was in Budapest for her Monster Ball tour during the awards, and appeared live via video link.

Just one of 12 awards went to a European artist - German band Tokio Hotel won for best appearance on the programme MTV World Stage.

Justin Bieber was named best male artist, and other kudos went to Linkin Park, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Paramore, Eminem and Kesha.

Katy Perry, who led the nominations along with Lady Gaga, earned just one prize - best video for California Gurls.
