1,800 MW power added to system in two years

Some 1,800 megawatt electricity has been added to the national power transmission system during the last two years.
According to a Ministry of Water and Power official, power generation had improved by 1,800 MW when the country was facing shortfall of 5,000 megawatt in the summer.
The government has taken several measures to overcome the load-shedding. More electricity would be added to the National Grid System in near future, which would help bridge the gap between demand and supply.
The official said that keeping in view the
gas shortage, most of the power generation units had been switched from gas to furnace oil, which would be reconverted to gas after March.
To a question, he said that the cost of service is recovered from the applicant of the new connection. Under the criteria Rs.4000 and Rs. 15,000 were being charged from the applicants for domestic and commercial connections respectively falling in the radius of 40 to 80 meter of an electric pole, he added.
