Updated at: 0829 PST, Sunday, June 27, 2010 LONDON: Artist Bruce Munro used nearly one million unwanted Compact Discs from around the world to create a shimmering inland sea. More than 600,000 discarded CDs were sent from as far away as Brazil and California were placed by hand for Munro's new 'CD Sea' artwork. One man donated 40,000 CDs to help towards the unique 'canvas' at Long Knoll Field in Wiltshire. The result is a 120 square metre carpet of glittering mirrors that reflect light from the Sun and the Moon across the 10-acre field. Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud was among the 140 volunteers pitching in to help Bruce create the inland 'sea' 40 miles from the coast. 'I was very nervous about it,' says Bruce, 51. 'You never know how something will work out but now I could not be happier. I'm so grateful to everyone who turned out to help. We had a magical weekend and CD-Sea looks amazing, like a giant painting on the grass.' |
