Strike against proposed amendment in blasphemy law


A nationwide strike was observed on Friday against proposed amendment in the blasphemy law.
The strike was called by the Tehreek Khatm-e-Nabuwwat and the religious parties of the country.
Residents of major cities faced difficulties as there was no public transport on the roads.
Moreover, protest demonstration and rallies were held in the almost every part of the country.
In Karachi, all the markets and commercial sites remained closed for the
day.
The decision to observe strike had been made in the All Parties Conference held in Islamabad on December 16.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah clarified the government had no plans to amend the blasphemy law.
During a news conference on Thursday in Karachi, Khursheed Shah assured that the law would remain intact in the current form.
