Barclays Premier League Enters in an Interesting Phase

Barclays premier league’s very first fixture of the new year was played. The weekend kicked off with West Brom hosting Manchester United, Wayne Rooney scored a 3rd minute header to give united a 1-0 lead, which was canceled by a brilliant strike from James Morrison in the 14th min.

Peter Odemwingie missed a penalty at 63rd min then Uniteds very own Chicarito (Javier Hernandez) scored in the 74th min to secure all the three points for United.

A typical Liverpool comeback gave them all the three points which they desperately needed with a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at Anfield. Davies scored for Bolton in the dying minutes of first half, Fernando Torres scored the equalizer before Joe Cole made it 2-1 in the 92nd minute. But Steven Gerrard was like always the man to watch.

Adam Johnson’s 34th minute strike gave Manchester City a 1-0 victory over Blackpool. Carlos Tevez missed three great chances including a Penalty.

A Kenwyne Jones header and a freak Phil Jagielka own goal handed Stoke City a 2-0 win over Everton.

Danny Welbeck, Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan scored for Sunderland as they beat BlackBurn Rovers 3-0 at the Stadium of light.

Not a Typical Gareth Bale goal as he headed Rafael van der Vaart’s strike to give Tottenham HotSpurs a 1-0 win over Fulham.

A Ronald Zubar own goal and a good strike from Freddie Sears gave Avram Grant’s side a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and send the wolves at the bottom of the table.

Birmingham may be a hard team to beat at home but a brilliant display from the gunners (Arsenal) gave them a 3-0 victory over the blues at St. Andrews. Robin Van Persie, Samir Nasri and an own goal from Roger Johnson were more than enough for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Chelsea against Aston Villa, surely the best game of the weekend. Many people would have thought that Chelseas bad run had come to an end in the midweek when they beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0, but Aston Villa held the defending champions in a dramatic 3-3 finish at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry scored for Chelsea while Ashley Young, Emile Heskey and Kieron Clark scored for Aston Villa.

Shola Ameobi scored the only goal for Newcastle as Newcastle beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 at the DW Stadium.
