Samsung To Challenge iPod Touch With Its Galaxy Player

After years of dominance of iPod, Samsung has now decided to challenge it with its own product. According to reports, Samsung will unveil the 4-inch Galaxy Player (based on Android 2.2) at CES 2011.

The device would essentially be like its Galaxy S smartphone without the mobile phone capability – much like the difference between the iPhone and the iPod touch.
Samsung didn’t say anything about the launch date thus there is no information available regarding when would this slim player be available for sale.
The 9.8mm-thin device will be available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB flavors.
Specs:
  • 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen (800 × 480 resolution)
  • 1GHz processor
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • GPS
  • 3.2-megapixel rear camera
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • HD video playback
  • microSD card slot
  • SoundAlive audio enhancing technology
  • Supports Samsung Apps and Android Market
  • 1200mAh removable battery
It is likely to be priced less than Apple’s iPod as the Samsung Galaxy Tab was priced less than the iPad.
Many companies have taken similar initiatives in the past too including Sony, Creative and Microsoft but failed to make a significant dent in Apple’s market share.
