Emran Hashmi to play Dawood

Actor Emraan Hashmi and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim share no similarity. But in his upcoming movie, touted to be based on the life of Haji Mastan, Emraan has copied him in many ways.

A still shows that Emraan’s character in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (OUATIM) is inspired by Dawood, and he’s indeed essaying the underworld don’s character. With this, the buzz doing the rounds that the movie also has an angle of don Haji Mastan and his rookie Dawood Ibrahim fighting for supremacy, has been established.

It’s not only Dawood’s style, Emraan has also tried to look like him. However, Emraan denied this saying, “My character is not inspired by Dawood. The stylist has tried to recreate the 70s era.”

Sources say that it’s not just about Emi’s looks, but also the location of the shoot. “The director wanted it to look real. So the scene was revisited and shot was taken at Mahalakshmi race course in Mumbai where Dawood had once watched a horse race,” says the source. Director Milan Luthria had said that the movie is a fictionalised version of the underworld. However, there’s an uncanny resemblance between the photographs taken from the stills of the film and that of the real don. Emraan adds, “It has nothing to do with anyone in particular. I studied the body language and dressing styles of dons and read about them.” Well, Emi whom have you observed so astutely? Dawood?
