Depp, Theron in Snow White?

Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp may enter the world of fantasy once again with Snow White and the Huntsman. The actor is rumoured to play the male lead of Eric the huntsman in the movie.

Oscar-winner Charlize Theron is in talks to play the evil queen Ravenna in the adaptation of famous fairytale. The role is likely to reunite Depp with his Alice in Wonderland producer Joe Roth, The Wrap reported. The movie is being developed by Universal Pictures but the studio is yet to confirm Depp's involvement in the project.

The new adaptation focuses more on Eric, the bounty hunter/hunstman who Ravenna hires to find and kill Snow White. He eventually refuses to kill the girl, instead tagging along with her as mentor.

Evan Daugherty is writing the script and Rupert Sanders is attached to direct. The fantasy movie is slated to release on December 21, 2012 while the shooting will begin in January next year.

Earlier, Inception star Tom Hardy was said to be close to signing a deal for Eric's role, which is now offered to Depp.

Hardy, whose stocks have gone up since Inception, is busy preparing for an unknown role in The Dark Knight Rises. Depp is waiting for the release of Angelina Jolie starrer The Tourist, Rango and The Rum Diary. He is currently in filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

The 47-year-old actor has been linked to several projects lately, including Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger and Kathryn Bigelow's Triple Frontier.
